“What a superb base the barn has been for our week in Ledbury.”

Its airy space and lovely touches of stylish comfort have so much added to the enjoyment of our stay. We have loved exploring the town and surrounding area and Mary has been so helpful in every way, especially in recommending so many lovely places to eat. It's been a perfect oasis to relax and revisit some favourite places - the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral was a real highlight.

The property

Whites Farm Barn is absolutely stunning and probably one of the best barn conversions we have seen.

Set deep within the countryside the property offers a real countryside experience and yet is within a convenient distance of one of the regions most delightful market towns - Ledbury.

Internally the barn is presented in a welcoming and attractive open plan style, with large open spaces displaying the oak beams and original 'cross windows'.

These period features mix beautifully with some contemporary touches such as underfloor heating.

There is also the added benefit of a ground floor bedroom and bathroom.

Externally the barn has an enclosed garden to the front and enjoys a lovely location situated down a quite lane within a little hamlet.

The owner provides a super welcome basket (and maybe a little homemade Perry!) and informs us that you can now order Waitrose deliveries to your door.

This is an excellent choice for those who like quality, space and something a little historic.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Note: Wifi Internet available - but please be aware that this is a rural area, and the speed may not be what you are used to.

Note: No children under 12 years

About the location

Dymock

Home of Wallace and Gromit's Stinking Bishop cheese!

Many of you, particularly newcomers or visitors may think Dymock is a quiet little Gloucestershire village with nothing much happening. Prepare to be surprised. Dymock is a vibrant, active community with a wide range of activities and groups. All of which meet regularly throughout the year, many in the Dymock Parish Hall but also elsewhere in the parish such as the Western Way Chapel, Brooms Green Memorial Hall and Ann Cam School.

Many walks in the area can be enjoyed alone or in groups and vary from the seasonal, such as the Dymock Daffodil Walks in March, to the Dymock Poets Walks, which can be enjoyed on any day of the year. Follow the links on the left to explore Dymock.

Little is known of the pre-Roman history of the village but it is believed that the fertile land around Dymock provided much of the fresh produce required by the Roman fortress of Glevum (Gloucester). There is a further gap during the Saxon period and the Middle Ages until we reach the point where Dymock is mentioned in the Domesday Book and at that time there were 68 males living in the village. Much has been recorded since that time.
Dymock is situated on the B4215 between Newent and Leominster. It borders Herefordshire and is approximately four miles from the pretty Herefordshire town of Ledbury. As one approaches the village from Newent over the M50 motorway bridge there is a panoramic view of the Malvern Hills. It is one of the biggest parishes in Gloucestershire in area and with nine hundred and forty eight people on the electoral register, about three hundred and fifty people live in the village itself.

We are lucky in that we still have a post office and village stores.

The local public house, the Beauchamp Arms, is owned by the community having been bought on its behalf by the Parish Council in 1997. This was to enable land at the side of the pub to be used to erect an extension to the nearby Parish Hall. Both the pub, the hall and St Mary's Church are very close to one another and are all focal points of the community. The adjacent village green known as the "Wintour's Green" is used for functions such as an annual barbecue organised by the Parish Hall committee and a Night at the Proms organised by the landlord and landlady of the Beauchamp Arms.

Being situated in the famous "daffodil country", the area is very busy during daffodil time when many people come to enjoy the lovely walks around the area.

Dymock is also famous for the Dymock poets, a group of well known poets who lived in the area before the first world war. There is an exhibition dedicated to them in the church.
