There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
When staying in luxury cottages in Wiltshire this August, besides relaxing in lavish surroundings you may also want to get involved with one of the many events that the county is hosting. With something for all interests and ages, we’ve picked a handful of some of the best to help you get your itinerary started.
In August 1990, the Queen re-opened the Kennet and Avon Waterway, following the extensive restoration of the canal, which was carried out by volunteers. In order to celebrate this anniversary, the Canal and River Trust is holding an event that will also recognise the ongoing preservation of the waterway.
Taking place on Friday 7th August, there will be a variety of activities for visitors to get involved in at the event, such as lock keeping, pond dipping, wildlife trails, boating, canoeing and cycling. The Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire will also be attending the event and will follow in the footsteps of Her Majesty by taking the same route through the locks aboard the Kenavon Venture.
Make the most of the summer evenings and enjoy an open-air performance of this children’s classic. In the beautiful setting of Lydiard Park, a 260-acre estate in Swindon, the enchanting story of young Mary Lennox will come alive with music and song. The production will include specially designed puppet creatures, which are sure to be a hit with adults, as well as the younger crowd. Tickets are £42 for the family, with those attending on 21st August asked to bring along rugs or low-backed seating to make viewing the outdoor play an even more enjoyable experience.
Have you ever wanted to have dinner with a Michelin-starred chef? Well, now you can, as Hywel Jones is inviting you to come and join him at Lucknam Park Cookery School near Bath.
