See rising cello star perform in Salisbury

Those staying in Wiltshire cottages this month have the opportunity to see one of Britain’s rising stars as the BBC’s Young Musician 2012 comes to Salisbury on 22nd September.

Laura van der Heijden is a 15 year old who has been playing the cello and piano ever since she was 6 years old, and her passion for music has led to her winning the prestigious award. Her entry for BBC Young Musician 2012 was considered to be quite a risky one as the piece is less well known: Walton’s Cello Concerto. This riskiness clearly paid off and she is looking forward to returning to Wiltshire where she performed last year.

On 22nd September, she will be playing at the Medieval Hall in Salisbury at 7.30pm. The programme features some wonderful classical pieces, including JS Bach Gamba Sonata No.2 in D BWV 1028, Debussy Cello Sonata (1915) and Tchaikovsky Pezzo Capriccioso.

Tickets are £20 for adults and can be bought from Salisbury Playhouse. The concert looks set to be a fantastic event, perfect for a cultured evening out whilst on holiday in the area.
