This September will see Liz Yelling head to Hampshire, where she will start the New Forest Marathon and Half Marathon.
Having competed in both the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympics, Yelling will be superb inspiration for all those taking part, providing great publicity for the event too. Also famous for winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, Yelling has had many sporting achievements, making it an honour that she is attending and supporting the New Forest Marathon.
This will be the 32nd event, but will have a refreshed format this year, due to being planned by a new organisers. Additionally, there will be a half marathon, 10k, 5k and family races for the 2015 event, which is set to take place on Sunday 13th September. Those staying in nearby cottages in the New Forest can sign up to take part here, or can simply turn up on the day to soak up the atmosphere and support the participants.
Event set to return bigger and better than before
Last year’s event was cancelled due to rising costs and a lack of entrants, which inspired Andy Daish and Chris Farr to re-launch the New Forest marathon. This will include changes such as a new route, which will start and end at the New Forest Showground in Brockenhurst, with runners heading through nearby villages such as Sway. The event will also be supported by the National Park Authority, which is providing a grant, in order for a free shuttle bus to run between Brockenhurst Train Station and the showground.
In an article by the Hampshire Chronicle, ORA Events Ltd’s Chris Farr said: “We are so proud and excited to have Liz start the event and would like to thank her for supporting the New Forest. To have someone who has achieved so much in the sport will provide the perfect inspiration for all runners at whatever distance they have chosen.”
