Are you planning on visiting Hampshire and The New Forest this summer? You’re in for a treat with all...
Those staying in New Forest cottages will have some of the country’s best pubs close by to visit after they were named in the Good Pub Guide 2013 released this week.
Two pubs around the New Forest area received titles from the gastronomic giant, including some of their most prestigious awards. Hampshire has shown that it does urban and rural equally well after the pubs won the titles for Best Country Pub and Town Pub of the Year.
The Royal Oak is one of the smallest pubs in the country and looks like a thatched cottage near Fritham in the heart of the New Forest. It won the award for Best Country Pub thanks to its character and reputation, created by its famous crackling log fires, low-beamed ceilings and traditional country pub grub.
The Wykeham Arms on Kingsgate Street, Winchester, was named Town Pub of the Year and the owner said that it was an “awesome result” considering that he has been running it for less than a year. A former coaching inn built in 1755 makes the ideal setting for a delicious pub lunch right in a historic city.
