There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
The course for the New Forest Marathon has finally been released, offering a true challenge for even the most hardened of athletes.
While we wrote about the return of the event in this recent post, organisers Andy Daish and Chris Farr have now announced the new route, one which mixes both on and off-road terrain to provide one of the most scenic planned running routes across the country.
Although all previous events began in New Milton, the new 26.2-mile course starts at the New Forest Showground in New Park, Brockenhurst. The circular route takes in both tarmac and woodland trails and will see entrants running through the villages of Brockenhurst and Sway, as well as tracks like the Ober Water and Wilverley Inclosure trails, before returning to the New Forest Showground for the finish.
The new start and finish location offers enough space for 100 businesses to set up stalls, which will give the event a festival vibe for participants to enjoy before and after the race, or during the race for spectators who are on countryside cottage breaks in the region.
As well as the full-distance marathon, organisers Andy Daish and Chris Farr have also arranged courses for a half-marathon, 10K and 5K to take place simultaneously, all of which will start and finish at the New Forest Showground. With four different events to choose from, Daish and Farr are hoping that more than 5,000 people will be able to discover the New Forest experience at the event.
The New Forest Marathon will take place on 13 September and those interested can sign up today by visiting the official website. Whether you want to take on any of the races, or perhaps just want to watch the entrants from the sidelines, it could be a fantastic excuse to enjoy a break in one of our scenic cottages in the New Forest.
