There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
A local events company has vowed to ensure that the New Forest Marathon is re-launched in 2015, as last year’s event was cancelled due to rising costs and a lack of entrants following competition from rival races.
As one of Hampshire’s biggest sporting events, it was a huge disappointment when the New Forest Marathon was cancelled last year, and many are looking forward to its welcome return in 2015. A fresh line-up of events can be expected this year, which those staying in cosy holiday cottages in the New Forest will be able to get involved in during a September holiday in Hampshire.
This year will see a newly devised route, which is thought will take runners through the New Forest National Park. With 5k, 10k and family race options also available, it offers the perfect opportunity for all the family to experience the New Forest, whether taking part of simply spectating.
The New Forest Marathon was first held in 1982 and has managed to raise over £1.25 million for various different charities since it began, in order to support the many great organisations that exist in the surrounding area. Previous New Forest Marathons were run by a number of small volunteers, although the new-look event will this time be organised as a commercial venture, but will still provide all the same benefits.
Co-owner of Ora Events, Andy Daish, expressed his delight at the return of the marathon and stated: “So far the response has been phenomenal – we are getting between 60 and 100 people registering an interest on our website every day.”
The event is scheduled to take place on September 13th and those looking to run in the event can do so by signing up here.
