King George VI's diary on display in New Forest

A fantastic exhibition at the New Forest Centre in Lyndhurst went on display last weekend, and a fascinating part of the New Forest Remembers – Untold Stories of World War II has caught the attention of the media. The diary notes of King George VI, which were made after inspecting D-Day landing craft in the New Forest, have gone on public display.

This fascinating piece of insight into how the New Forest was impacted by World War II was given special permission to be on public display and was released by the Royal Archives. The personal diary entry sees King George describe sailing down to the Solent and seeing over 300 landing craft before they set off for Normandy.

The diary entry is just one part of a fascinating exhibition that is a must for those who are soon to be staying in holiday cottages in the New Forest. New Forest Remembers – Untold Stories of World War II runs until 28 April at the New Forest Centre.
