There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
The Dorset County Show kicks off this weekend and the event is expected to attract thousands of people.
The two-day show, which begins on Saturday 6th September, will be putting on a number of events and activities for crowds to enjoy.
The Dorset County Show is expected to be so popular that holiday cottages across Dorset are set to be virtually full as interest in this year’s show is high.
A range of attractions to draw in the crowds
This year’s show has a number of highlights that visitors just cannot miss including a Bolddogs Lings Motorbike Stunt Display Team, who have recently performed at Britain’s Got Talent, doing a performance over the weekend.
Other highlights include The National Vegetable Society’s National Championships, a sheep show, Terrier racing, a gun dogs show, a show jumping competition, a Falconry display and a home craft exhibition.
If that isn’t enough then this year’s show will also boast over 500 trade stands that will be selling clothes, cars, plants, building supplies and more, as well as over 90 food stalls that will not only let visitors try delicious dishes but will be putting on cooking demonstrations from the best local chefs.
In total the show will be welcoming over 2,000 animals ranging from cattle, pigs and sheep to rabbits and alpacas.
If you are staying in one of the nearby classic English country cottages in Dorset and are unsure about whether to attend, then the show’s secretary, Sam Mackenzie Green, is hoping to persuade you.
She told the Dorset Echo, “We have 540 trade stands this year, which is quite a significant record for us, and we probably could have sold up to 40 more, so it shows how much people want to be here and be a part of it.
“When I first started as show secretary there were 850 entries into home craft, now there are 2,312.”
