Situated in the picturesque village of Chilmark, close to the Dorset border and in an area designated of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is a delightful cottage of traditional design in a quiet village street, bordered by a small winterbourne (stream). Lying some 11 miles to the west of Salisbury, in the valley of the River Nadder, Chilmark is a village of stone and thatched cottages with an excellent 14th century pub and a 12th century church. It is near here that the limestone for Salisbury's magnificent, 13th century, Gothic cathedral was quarried.
Among the many visitor attractions in the area are Stonehenge, Longleat, Stourhead Gardens, and the ruins of Wardour Castle. Tisbury, 2 miles away, has a main line station to London (Waterloo).
The surrounding countryside is some of the finest in Southern England and there are many attractive country villages and good country pubs to explore.
Winterbourne Cottage is charming, tastefully furnished and well equipped. The sitting room is light and spacious with French windows, which open out onto a secluded rear garden.
Entrance hallway. Spacious sitting room with fireplace, containing a fitted gas fire, and French doors to the garden. Well equipped, fitted kitchen and adjoining utility room. Separate dining room. Downstairs cloakroom/wc. Upstairs: 2 bedrooms - master bedroom with zip and link bed, offering 6ft double or twin beds, and large walk-in cupboard. Twin bedroom. Bathroom/w.c. with shower attachment to the bath, heated towel rail and vanitory unit.
Attractive front garden and delightful, secluded, enclosed, rear garden with many shrubs and plants.
Comfortable, spacious cottage in picturesque village, and VERY quiet
We booked via "Hideaways" and the service was trouble-free. The property was surprisingly spacious for a two bedroomed cottage; it was cosy and well-equipped. The garden was pretty and well kept. The only surprise was that gas and electricity were not included in the price, but were calculated at the end of our stay. Chilmark is a very quiet village - no street lighting - but it does have a lovely pub with good food. There are lots of nice walks nearby and cycling is probably an attractive proposition. It's 12 miles to Salisbury which is definitely worth one or two visits. The nearest small town for shopping is Tisbury, 3 miles away via a very minor road. Tisbury also has a rail station and is on the line from Waterloo.Guest's review on TripAdvisor, October 1, 2015. 4 of 5 stars.
Great! Comfortable, superbly equipped cottage in a cosy village.
Booking was easy and was very professionally handled, although I was a bit puzzled why it was not possible, even in off-season, to book from Sunday to Sunday - we had to leave on Saturday although no new guests were arriving that day. The amenities of the cottage were exactly as described and pictured on the website - best I've ever had in a self-catered cottage. However, the instructions on how to get the central heating running (found in a folder in the cottage) could have been clearer. The location in the small village of Chilmark is lovely, and it's easy to get to the nearby cities and sightseeing spots such as Salisbury and Stonehenge by car. The village pub is highly recommended as well!Guest's review on TripAdvisor, June 10, 2015. 5 of 5 stars.
