Introduction

Reputedly one of the oldest residential properties in Salisbury, this Grade II listed, terraced cottage is within easy walking distance of the Market Square, with its twice – weekly Charter Market, Cathedral Close – the largest in England – and the wide variety of shops, pubs, restaurants, arts and leisure facilities available in this ancient and historic city. Salisbury’s premier attraction is of course its 13th century cathedral built in the Early English style and supporting the tallest spire in England. Also well worth a visit are Mompesson House (National Trust), the Medieval Hall and the Salisbury Museum. The city has a flourishing theatre – the Salisbury Playhouse – and hosts an annual international arts festival in May.

While Salisbury itself offers a wealth of visitor attractions, the surrounding area also boasts a huge range of sites to explore; top of the ‘not to be missed’ list are prehistoric Stonehenge, stately homes and gardens such as Wilton House, Longleat and Stourhead and the unique landscape of the New Forest National Park.

This ancient cottage still retains elements of its original character and provides a very comfortable base for visitors wishing to explore this fascinating area.

What our guests say

Lovely, warm and cosy cottage.

A lovely cottage set a 5 minute walk from the centre of Salisbury. The cottage was very clean and tidy. The bed was so comfortable and the pillows were full and soft. A reading light was a very welcome addition, a good supply of books provided, in case you forgot yours. The kitchen was well organised and had everything that would be required. The garden was pretty and had a nice seating area. The stairs are very steep, we were warned by the friendly landlady. Shower was a good size. Towels and sheets were lovely. Lots of restaurants in the centre, Salisbury Cathedral is a short walk away and the museum is worth a visit.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful cottage

We had a wonderful stay in Thimble Cottage. There was everything you could possibly need, with a lovely garden and right near the town centre. Salisbury is a lovely quaint town with a wonderful cathedral. We could not complain about anything during our stay. Emmie, the owner, is very friendly and just lets you get on with your holiday.

Lovely stay - really appreciate how well equipped the cottage is - with lots of 'extras'. Lots to do in Salisbury and some great walks. Really good Italian Restaurant in market square (Leonardos) - excellent meal and good value.

Ideal place to stay in Salisbury

Located only five minutes from the City shopping centre and 10 minutes from Salisbury Cathedral. Thimble Cottage has all the amenities to make it a home from home, washing facilities, WiFi, TV, nice large shower, comfortable bedroom and an especially nice rear garden. We have used Thimble twice and found everything clean and tidy, did not have time to read all the books!! The surrounding area is ideal for walking, especially the river walk from St Thomas's Church up to Stratford-sub-Castle/Old Sarum. New Forest is only a 30 minute drive away. Although the cottage has first class cooking facilities, Salisbury has plenty of restaurants and nice pubs. We have already booked two weeks accommodation for 2017 !!

Comfortable, clean, convenient

Thimble Cottage is quaint but comfortable, ideally located with walking distance of Salisbury town centre and attractions like the Cathedral. We were met by the owner and given parking tickets for the duration of the stay. (Unfortunately we didn't put one on early enough the next morning and we got a ticket! So put it in the night before!) The cottage itself is well equipped, with vintage china and plenty of cooking utensils. The shower room is large with an efficient shower. The bed is comfortable with good quality linen. The lounge has two comfy settees and lots of books and DVDs to keep you entertained. The only thing I would warn about is that the cottage is not suitable if you have limited mobility, as the staircase is extremely steep and narrow. We would certainly book this cottage again for a future stay in Salisbury.

It has been a real pleasure to stay here these last four days - I am sorry to leave and hope to return. Thank you for allowing me to tend your beautiful garden; there is much love in this place.

Mrs MacLeod, July 2016.

Once again we enjoyed the facilities of Thimble Cottage - a different walk each day. The highlight was The Cathedral Tower tour.

What a little treasure this cottage is. Everything was perfect; it was well stocked with everything- close to the town centre so no need to take the car. Would definitely recommend and stay again if we were in the area.

Mr Campbell, June 2016

The cottage was even better than we expected. Very cosy and comfortable with everything that we needed. Loved the position and being able to walk to the Cathedral. Choral evensong was amazing! A great place to stay; we thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is looking for that type of accommodation. Thank you Emmie!

A terrific place to stay in Salisbury

We stayed at the Thimble cottage for twelve days. It is just practically perfect. Cozy, but plenty large enough for two people to stay. Wonderfully fitted out with a kitchen and great bathroom. There's even a back garden for taking your tea (or wine) on those nice fall afternoons. Location is great; on a quiet street just off the city center. About a five minute walk to the Market Square in Salisbury, about 15 minutes to the train station, and about 10 minutes to the Cathedral. The hosts are just terrific, very helpful and accommodating. We generally did our breakfast at the Cottage and then went out for lunch and dinner. We will definitely go back to Thimble Cottage the next time we're in Salisbury. One con - if you are tall (say 5ft 10inches or taller) remember to duck! The doorways are quite low.

Delightful Cottage

This delightful cottage tucked away on the edge of the city centre was a real treat. We didn't have any difficulty finding it although some of the streets in the location are one way. We have stayed in rented holiday cottages/properties over the last 43 years but I have never stayed in one which was quite so well equipped. The black and white cottage has a small garden to the rear which was a real sun trap. An ideal location for the short walk into Salisbury city centre but still quiet for a city centre location. A real home from home.

Gorgeous cottage

We stayed in Thimble Cottage during our self-drive holiday in the UK. It was a fantastic start to our trip. Everything we needed was available in the cottage and it was in a great location. It was an easy walk to the Cathedral and town centre. The local pubs were great for meals. It was also a good location for our visit to Stonehenge. We were provided with a visitor parking voucher for our car. A really lovely experience which we thoroughly recommend.
