Introduction

This is a truly delightful Grade II listed cottage, skillfully restored from an old forge and set in the grounds of a country house in the Wylye Valley village of Heytesbury, approx. half an hour’s drive from the cathedral city of Salisbury and about 40 minutes from the World Heritage, Georgian city of Bath, with its many architectural splendours and state-of-the-art spa complex.

The Old Forge Cottage provides an ideal base for exploring this part of southern England; Longleat (Marquess of Bath’s stately home and safari park), Stonehenge and Stourhead (world famous gardens laid out in the 18th century) are no more than 20 minutes’ drive while the New Forest, Cotswolds and South Dorset coast are all reachable in an hour. The market town of Warminster provides for all local shopping needs and has a rail service to London, Waterloo. This part of Wiltshire also boasts some stunning countryside especially along the Wylye valley, and there are a number of excellent village pubs within a 10 mile radius. Heytesbury itself has two pubs within walking distance of the cottage, a small PO stores and a church.

The Old Forge Cottage is to a very high specification throughout and provides spacious living and sleeping accommodation for couples or a small family. There is a gated, gravelled and paved garden area with barbecue to the rear of the cottage and visitors are welcome to use the owner’s hard tennis court by arrangement.

Lovely week as a family and loved the toddler friendly cottage. Tennis court a real bonus and felt very welcome. Weather was very kind to us. Prior Park was a new discovery and idyllic.

Rev. Howe, August 2016

Such a beautiful cottage in such a beautiful part of the country. Thank you for sharing it with us. We have had a very busy week exploring Wiltshire and the cottage provided a homely base to return to at the end of our day. Our children adored the tennis court. Again, thank you.

An idyllic home from home

We three ladies shared the cottage for a short autumn break in September. My mother really enjoyed her trip down memory lane by keeping the cosy fire going during the chilly evenings, with logs which were magically replenished each day. We all appreciated the tasteful decor and even though we brought everything we needed as advised in one Trip Advisor review, we needn't have bothered as everything was provided. The shower arrangement is not contemporary however that is in keeping with the style of the cottage and for us all, another trip down memory lane. The surroundings are beautiful, restful and central to many interesting places to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility provided by this delightful little home from home.
