Hampsley Hollow is a delightful place. At the end of a long, ‘no-through’ country lane and nestling below a range of rolling downland, the farm’s 30 acres are home to a number of horses and related activities, as well as a separate small ‘glamping’ area. The Fours, so called because the building was once part of a group of four stables, is on lower ground below the farmhouse and has lovely views from the garden at the front, as well as direct access to a public footpath leading to the downs and some superb walks.

The Fours has an immediately welcoming feel from the moment you step into the large, light living space. A very comfortable sitting area in contemporary style occupies the major part of the room; a well-equipped kitchen and bright dining area are partly separated from it by the enclosed stairs which lead to the beautifully-presented bedrooms and a very modern bathroom. Velux windows ensure that on this level too, light, as well as distant views, are much in evidence.

This part of Wiltshire offers almost endless scope for exploration. Close to the farm is Cherhill Down and one of several white horses carved into the hillsides. Another of these, and a 17th Civil War century battle site, lie to the South East, whilst the prehistoric Avebury Rings and the Southern end of the Ridgeway Path are not far away; nor are Silbury Hill and the West Kennet Long Barrow. Even Stonehenge is less than an hour by road.

For the less historically-minded, other attractions include the nearby Kennet and Avon Canal (narrowboat day trips available) and Savernake Forest just outside Marlborough. For a day’s outing, the Georgian city of Bath, Salisbury with its fine cathedral, and Longleat House and Safari Park near Warminster, are all easily reached.

Whatever your day’s activity, The Fours will welcome you back: a glass or two, or perhaps a barbecue, in the peaceful garden watching for badgers and foxes in the hedge beyond the field, will set you up well for the next day’s exertions.

Entrance to large, very light open-plan, contemporary living space. Sitting area with flagged floor and inset carpet. Comfortable seating. French window to garden. Separate dining area. Fitted kitchen with elec. double oven/grill. Stairs to small landing. Two bedrooms, one double and one twin room with 3ft. beds (can be pushed together to make a large double). Both rooms with fitted carpets, Velux windows and built-in wardrobes.

Outside: the private garden at the back of the cottage affords long, restful views across the adjoining farmland. A picnic table and gas BBQ are provided.

What our guests say

A relaxing stay at Hampsley Hollow!

We stayed at The Fours for five weeks whilst waiting for our house to be finished and were pleasantly surprised to find the cottage offered everything we could need. The cottage is a well thought out conversion of a farm building and very well furnished and equipped for a short or long term let. Everyone involved with the equestrian activity of the farm was polite, courteous and helpful at all times. Our dog also enjoyed his walks through the extensive countryside. We would like to thank everyone involved at Hampsley Hollow for making our stay so relaxing.

We had a great time! We went on two long walks from the cottage and cycled along the canal to Bradford upon Avon and also to Lacock. We spent a day in Bath and went round the Roman Baths. We loved the cottage and the great views!

The Fours had the WOW factor as soon as I stepped inside. The attention to detail made for an extra special stay. Wonderful views, friendly people, lovely animals and delicious chocolate cake!.
