Introduction

In an elevated and private position on the outskirts of the small village of St Briavels, The Cottage enjoys tremendous panoramic views over the Wye Valley below. The original small worker’s dwelling has recently had a much larger, contemporary extension seamlessly grafted on to it which provides very light and spacious accommodation.

The location affords easy access to the many and varied attractions in the area. Footpaths and bridleways are all around, including access onto a bridlepath just beyond the cottage door, and a wide range of outdoor activities are available locally – cycleways through the forest, fishing and canoeing on the Wye, and for steam enthusiasts, the famous Forest of Dean Steam Railway. Puzzle Wood and the Sculpture Trail are popular family destinations and there are numerous historic sites such as Chepstow Castle and Tintern Abbey within easy driving distance. For a day’s exploring the cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester, with the Cotswolds beyond, are well within reach.

St Briavels itself has a friendly pub,”The George Inn” and a moated Norman castle, which is open to the public - a great attraction for kids.

The original part of the cottage retains some interesting features, and the extension has been thoughtfully designed to provide a wonderful feeling of space and comfort, with big folding doors along one wall of the living area cleverly blending indoors and out. The spectacular views are a particular feature of this property and relaxing on the large patio with a glass or two in the evening will be a memorable holiday experience.

FURTHER INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR PICTURES OF THE COTTAGE WILL BE ADDED IN FEBRUARY/MARCH 2017

Accommodation

Entrance from parking area across the front garden to a small porch and flagged hall/snug with original stone stairs (now for alternative use only) and a downstairs double bedroom leading off it. Beyond the hall is a dramatic new open plan living room with large folding glass doors opening out onto the rear garden. At one end of the room a big floor-to-ceiling window floods the sitting area with light; a deep corner sofa with wall-mounted flat screen TV and woodburner make this a cosy space too. In the middle of the room the long bespoke, oak dining table provides a convivial dining area and the state-of-the-art kitchen at the far end has integral appliances and lots of work space. A study with TV, a utility room and a shower room/wc complete the ground floor accommodation.

The main stairs lead from the back of the living room to a first floor sitting/games room where a very large full-height feature window affords spectacular views over the Wye valley. There are three bedrooms on this level; one double with kingsize bed and en suite bathroom/wc in the new part of the house, plus a second double bedroom and a twin room with ensuite bathroom in the older part. There is also a separate family bathroom/wc.
