Introduction

A sensitve conversion of traditional, Victorian mellow brick and slate farm buildings into three high quality cottages with the added attraction of an integral, heated, indoor swimming pool ...

The farm

Conygre Farm is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Pewsey Vale. Its unusual name provides the clue to its original purpose. The farm once provided rabbits for the lord and master of the ancient Savernake Estate to hunt - 'Conygre' means 'rabbit enclosure' in medieval French. The farm has changed and evolved over the centuries and is now 340 acres of rolling, arable land with 35 acres of environmental 'features' including four newly planted woods, a wild flower and 'wild bird' meadow, to promote and enhance the natural flora and fauna - it now supports many different bird species (barn owls, lapwings, golden plover, grey partridge), wild mammals (hares & deer, not to mention the odd rabbit) and is the registered site of rare species of wild flowers.

The cottages

The latest development at Conygre Farm is the conversion of some of the farm buildings, which would once have been a milking parlour; bull pens and granary, into three top quality interconnecting holiday cottages, providing accommodation for up to 21 people with the added attraction of an integral indoor heated swimming pool, easily accessible from each cottage and, in the case of The Burrow or The Warren, without the need even to step outside. The cottages are ideal for larger groups or for several families wishing to holiday together with dining for up to 21 in The Burrow's open plan living area. (Outside catering can be arranged). The Burrow and The Warren are at either end of an indoor walkway adjacent to the swimming pool and The Old Cart Shed adjoins The Warren.

The local area

From the farm there are 360 degree views of both sides of the valley up to the downs and plenty of walks on the farm. In the local area The Kennet & Avon Canal, a mile away, offers narrow boat trips while the ancient Savernake Forest, (3 miles) is good for walks and picnics. The area is rich in prehistoric, archaeological sites such as Avebury, Stonehenge and Silbury Hill while the historic cities of Bath, Oxford and Salisbury are within an hour's drive. The nearest market town is Marlborough (7 miles) while nearby Pewsey has a main line rail link to London, good local shops and a supermarket.

Swimming pool/games facilities

The indoor pool (approx. 8 metres x 4 metres) and open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. can be accessed via a communal indoor walkway. It has its own changing room with shower and wc and is for the private use of visitors. A games room with table tennis, darts, games and an arts and crafts area for smaller children, as well as a tumble drier and freezer, is located in a separate barn on the other side of the courtyard.

Accommodation

All the accommodation in The Burrow is at ground floor level, with the exposed original timber work lending character and style to the double height rooms. The cottage has access to the large, attractively landscaped, enclosed, courtyard garden area.

Entrance from a paved garden patio area through double glazed doors into a large open plan living room comprising a sitting area with woodburning stove, an oak fitted kitchen and a dining area. Access to the covered walkway and from there to the swimming pool area. 3 bedrooms - 1 with 5ft double, 1 with zip & link beds, providing a super kingsize double or 2 singles, and 1 twin. Bathroom/wc. with independent shower above the bath.

What more could we need

Spent 4 days in this wonderful cottage. Extremely clean, very nice interior, very tasty home-made welcome cake from the owners. Two children at 9 & 7 loved the indoor pool and the "games/craft" room. We loved the fact you are in the middle of nowhere and yet within easy journey to Winchester/Salisbury, Marlborough High Street 10/15 min, good local golf and lots to see in aforementioned towns. Local area of Crofton Beam Engine and Devizes lock system well worth seeing and walks on the Kennet Avon Canal. In combination with the other two cottages I think it sleeps about 20 so planning a family get together to rent the lot. Very positive on the owners who were almost invisible during our stay and very impressed that upon return of our deposit they actually took the time to send us a hand written note thanking us for the cleanliness we left the cottage in and hoping we enjoyed our stay. We certainly did and the only downside was we didn't book a week. Highly recommended.

We had a great stay!

We booked a new year stay at The Burrow for 6 adults and 2 toddlers. We had a great stay. Very roomy and with the added bonus of a shared pool and games room which was great. The welcome pack on arrival was a nice touch. Huge driveway for parking. Good base for getting to Bath and Longleat. We would definitely recommend it and will be back in the future. Thank you!

Lovely New Year stay. Added bonus of the use of the lovely pool. Thanks for the goodies you left for us. Would recommend. Going home very relaxed.

Happy family holiday in great accommodation

We were a group of two grandparents and two young families. We rented The Burrow and The Warren which gave us excellent accommodation for six adults and four children. We were able to eat all together in the Burrow which had space for combined dining tables. There was a lovely indoor pool which was greatly enjoyed by us all. The cottages were very clean and comfortable and well equipped.

Our second visit (Old Cart Shed last time) and every bit as lovely - peace and quiet and wonderful countryside. Pool and cake both winners. Cottages so clean and cosy & fab to have family next door this time. So grateful for a well equipped kitchen. Thank you.

We keep coming back to Conygre Farm

We have come back to The Burrow, The Warren and The Cart House every November for the last 7 years. As an extended family group of around 20 of all ages we love the interconnecting cottages and the kids love the indoor pool and games room. It is great that we can all eat together but have three separate lounges. The central location is ideal for family travelling from all directions. The cottages are always clean and well maintained and have everything you need.
