Introduction

Peacefully situated in an elevated position just above the village of Ludgvan this impressive granite farmhouse enjoys superb views to the sea encompassing the whole of Mount’s Bay, with the Mount itself being framed in the middle. St Michael’s Mount itself can be accessed via a cobbled causeway from Marazion Beach which is only a short 5 minute drive from the house. This is also the heart of ‘Poldark’ country and St Michael’s, which by coincidence was built for a mine captain, could hardly be better placed for exploring some of the filming locations along this dramatic stretch of the West Cornwall coastline. St Michael’s is also only 15 minutes’ drive from the fishing village of St Ives, with its many restaurants, art galleries, independent shops and ‘Blue Flag’ sandy beaches.

The surrounding countryside, which forms part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offers superb walking, cycling and bird watching while on the coast there are excellent opportunities for all manner of water sports from surfing, bodyboarding and kiteboarding to windsurfing and sailing.

Dating back to the 1800s, St Michael’s has been painstakingly restored by its current owner. The house retains many of its original features and has some interesting mining memorabilia (pictures, maps and minerals etc) on display which are redolent of the era when it was built. This is a light and spacious house with pretty décor, original artwork on the walls and a lovely big conservatory at the front - a great addition to the original accommodation. There is a small annexe adjoining the farmhouse with its own private entrance which is reserved for the owner’s use.

Accommodation

Entrance into large, warm, conservatory overlooking the garden. Large comfortable sitting room with beamed ceiling, deep comfy sofas and a fireplace with woodburning stove for chilly evenings, convivial open plan kitchen/dining room with a raised dining area and table for 8 and a really well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. Large utility/games room and shower room/wc at the back of the house. 1st floor: three bedrooms, one with a king size bed and wash basin, one with twin beds and wash basin and one with a standard size double. The larger double room and twin bedroom enjoy magnificent views to Mounts Bay. Family bathroom/wc with separate shower cubicle. Enclosed staircase to 2nd floor leading directly into a very large family room under the eaves (NB some low beams) with one double and one single; fine views from the velux windows to Mounts Bay. Ensuite shower room/wc.

In front of the house there is a large enclosed garden with ample garden furniture, teak dining table, sun loungers and charcoal barbecue.

What our guests say

The perfect welcome to Cornwall

We visited Cornwall for the first time earlier this summer and could not have had a warmer welcome to this beautiful area. The property owners did everything to ensure we got the full Cornwall experience, including suggesting some of the nearby Poldark filming sites (I'm a huge fan!). You're not far from the coast as well as St. Ives, which is a charming coastal town. The house itself is very spacious and has the amazing historical charm of the old miner's home that it was, but has been fully renovated and is just so lovely. The upstairs bedroom looks out to St. Michael's Mount and has views of the sea. The property owners maintain lovely gardens and paths so be sure to explore and enjoy. We have two small kids and having an updated kitchen, laundry and living area was so helpful. There was even a foosball table in the back porch area, which our boys loved! We won't soon forget this trip and hope to go back to Cornwall and stay and St. Michael's again soon.

Fantastic Cornish Experience surrounded by great people!!!

We kept hearing about Cornwall and how beautiful the scenery was so we finally booked a trip this past summer. We started in London and then took the train to Penzance. We stayed here in St. Michael's Farmhouse and loved every minute. The owner's of the property are some of the nicest people and helped us navigate our Cornish experience. The house was very clean and had plenty of space for all of us. We had everything we needed and there were plenty of beautiful places to sit and relax. Everything you want to see is in very close driving distance so we felt we picked the perfect spot. You will not be disappointed!!!!

Excellent family holiday home

St Michael’s is the perfect place to stay with family or friends, with plenty of space for everyone. The views are outstanding of St Michaels Mount and the surrounding countryside. The area is beautiful with wooded valleys and country lanes, it’s close to Penzance and St Ives, both just a few miles away. There are also local amenities just down the road which is handy. The local beaches of Marazion and Praa Sands are excellent for kite surfing and windsurfing which was a real hit with our family. The smaller beaches such as Prussia Cove and Peranuthnoe are just a short drive away, perfect for a day out or walk along the coastal paths. The house itself is brilliantly set out, there are large areas for everyone to get together downstairs that flows out to the large front garden. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you need. The bedrooms are spacious, all the beds are super comfy with lovely linen provided. Also, there’s plenty of room to securely store your surfboards and bikes around the back of the house. A great place to stay, we will certainly be coming back!!
