Introduction

Rose Cottage is the middle of three typically Cornish stone and slate buildings with an unusual history. Together they formed the counting house for Wheal Fortune silver mine, the (now derelict) shaft of which is in the grounds of the adjacent cottage where the owners live. Situated in the ancient village of Harrowbarrow in the Tamar Valley (recently designated a World Heritage Site and also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the cottage is ideally placed for exploring the many interesting aspects of the river and its surrounding area: the famous National Trust property of Cotehele is just 3 miles away; Endsleigh Gardens and Morwellham Quay, near Tavistock, are also just a few miles away. Dartmoor, and the fine beaches of both North and South East Cornwall, are all within an easy drive.

The property has an appropriately `cottagey` feel and a door from the sitting room gives access to a private patio area and a very attractive south - facing garden with views out to the surrounding countryside. There are especially fine southerly views from upstairs.

A lovely, relaxing experience.

We arrived earlier than expected and were greeted by the owner's son, a very friendly young man, who let us into the cottage. From the moment we went in everything that greeted our eyes was lovely. Top to bottom an ideal cottage for myself and wife. A lovely sight was the cream tea waiting for us on the table, and was delicious. We Met Steve and Liz and they were welcoming friendly and very helpful, letting us know they were there if we needed help with anything. We were ideally situated for sight seeing, both walking and driving, inland or coastal. Beautiful views from the cottage made waking up a pleasure. A very relaxing peaceful and pleasant holiday. We originally booked for 5 nights but extended to 7 as we were so pleased with our lucky find.

Guests' review on TripAdvisor, 19 September 2013. 5 of 5 stars.

Just to say a huge thank you for making our stay in Cornwall so wonderful. The cottage is so cosy and bright and a joy to stay in. The scones and jam were well received and delicious to boot. The cottage was well equipped with little surprises like games ( Ella loves Jenga), Jigsaws and DVD's. The gardens are beautiful, especially the everlasting flowers. Lovely surprises all round.
