Introduction

Quietly situated along a country lane on the edge of the pretty village of Rockbourne, this is an enchanting retreat set in the garden of an ancient thatched cottage dating back to 14th century. Thoughtfully revived and refurbished, the interior is now tastefully decorated in restful Farrow and Ball colours and furnished in an uncluttered, contemporary style. The open-plan living room has a great feeling of light and space and the main bedroom boasts a luxurious super kingsize bed. Both rooms open out onto a small verandah where you can relax and enjoy an alfresco meal.

There are great walks and cycle rides on the doorstep and Rockbourne’s highly recommended thatched pub, The Rose and Thistle is a 10 minute walk away at the other end of the village; you’ll pass the entrance to Rockbourne's Roman Villa on the way. The country road leading south out of the village will bring you to the small country town of Fordingbridge on the banks of the River Avon and to the New Forest National Park boundary just 10 minutes’ drive away. To the north the historic cathedral city of Salisbury is only 12 miles while to the south, the beaches, yachting marinas and resorts (Lymington, Christchurch, Poole and Bournemouth) of the South Hampshire and Dorset coastline are about 20 to 25 miles.

Accommodation

(All ground floor): entrance into a very spacious, contemporary open-plan living room with natural pine floor comprising a comfortable sitting area where you can snuggle up on the corner sofa in front of the woodburner and a well-lit dining area with table for four. Off this room there is a separate kitchen with fitted units and Belfast sink, a pretty double bedroom with sumptuous, super kingsize bed, a single bedroom and a very smart, contemporary bathroom/wc with separate shower over the bath.

Location

What our guests say

Lovely hideaway in a great location!!!

Stayed at Percy's retreat this week and could not fault it. Felt secluded but not isolated. All rooms were decorated to a good level and the kitchen was fully equipped with high quality utensils. There was plenty of room for the three of us and the log burner was a real bonus. It is surrounded by footpaths and is also a short drive of all the main attractions in the New Forest and a short distance from Salisbury. The Rose & Thistle in the village has top quality food and excellent service. Would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at 'Percy' with lots of walks and visits to local pubs & coffee/tea rooms in the area. A lot of thought has gone into creating "Percy's Retreat.

An extremely enjoyable stay - relaxing and wonderful location. The beds were comfortable. We would definitely come here again.

Perfect getaway

My friend and I have just returned from a weekend at Percy's Retreat. It is a beautiful property, renovated and furnished with great taste and style. The owner's live next door, are very friendly and on hand should you need anything but are not in any way intrusive. We took my dog and did some fabulous walks right from the doorstep, amazing scenery and Rockbourne is such a pretty village with a fabulous pub, the Rose and Thistle. I can highly recommend a stay here, in fact I am about to book my next weekend break here!
