Introduction

Switch off from the stresses of modern living and find some peace and tranquillity in a corner of Wiltshire where the three shepherd’s huts at Milton Farm nestle quietly at the bottom of a wheat field.

These are authentic huts, which last saw working life back in the 1950s and which have now been carefully restored and transformed by their owner, providing a real ‘get-away-from-it-all’ retreat for two. Between them the three huts, each one a hop, skip and a jump from the other, cater for all your needs – relaxing and sleeping in one, kitchen and eating in the second and a shower, wash basin and separate loo in the third.

There’s great walking all around this secluded spot, with immediate access onto a footpath which leads up through woods to East Knoyle Green where you can enjoy a meal at The Fox & Hounds and you’re spoilt for wonderful places to visit within half an hour’s drive including the magical ruins of Old Wardour Castle, world famous Stourhead Gardens and the cathedral city of Salisbury. For a day’s outing two World Heritage sites - the South Dorset Jurassic coast and the Georgian city of Bath are both within an hour’s drive. Good local shopping is provided in the nearby village of Tisbury or Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury and there’s a small post office/village shop in East Knoyle half a mile away.

Accommodation

Accessed from a country lane through a group of farm buildings, the three shepherd’s huts are positioned against a backdrop of horse chestnut trees with a sweeping view up and across a large field to woodland at the top.

The largest hut provides living and sleeping accommodation and is accessed up 5 steps. At one end two ‘linked’ armchairs provide a cosy sitting area while at the other end a fitted standard size double mattress and dressing table provide a snug sleeping area. (NB the bed can only be accessed on one side). A small flat screen TV with FreeSat channels has been set up for your pleasure and convenience. The other larger hut provides a simple but properly equipped kitchenette with hot water supply, small fridge, and a two ring ‘work-top’ cooker with oven under. There’s ample space for eating at the ‘pull-down’ semi-circular table top. In between, washing facilities are provided in a smaller, separate hut with shower cubicle, wash basin and adjoining wc. (NB the shower has limited head height (one metre 70) but a fold-down seat makes it a little easier for taller folk to use.)

Immediately in front of the huts, a table and chairs are provided so that you can enjoy a barbecue and a glass of wine while you soak up the atmosphere of this small corner of rural Wiltshire.
