Introduction

Manor Cottage is a gem and deservedly graded 4 stars, Gold Award by Visit England. Standing by the green, just a stone’s throw from the local pub in the pretty country village of Shalbourne, it is perfectly placed to provide rural peace yet easy access to an historic part of southern England, Winchester, Salisbury, Bath, Oxford and Windsor all being within an hour’s drive. Closer to Shalbourne are the local market towns of Hungerford and Marlborough, both well known for their antique shops and Newbury, offering a wide range of shops and restaurants. Other visitor attractions include Wilton Windmill & the Crofton Beam Engines, the ancient stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge, the Kennet & Avon Canal (narrow boat trips) and the ancient Savernake Forest. London is just over an hour by train from Hungerford (4 miles) and junction 14 of the M4 is approx. 7 miles.

Built in 1840, Manor Cottage has been thoughtfully modernised and harmoniously extended so as to provide extremely comfortable and well-equipped accommodation, whilst carefully retaining its original character and charm.

A beautiful cottage to chill out in

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage, such a peaceful place, if you want to just chill out, no shops just a quiet village with a lovely pub/restaurant this is the place. The cottage is in such a lovely spot. Across the road is the pub/restaurant, we ate there Saturday night and had Sunday lunch the next day. Lovely food. It does not open on Mondays, we had a visit into Salisbury, a look around the shops, lunch and then to the cathedral, a lovely day. The rest of the time it was just chilling in the cottage, we had tea in the garden, there is a barbecue. Would thoroughly recommend this cottage for a very chilling, peaceful weekend, we would definitely go again.

Perfect for a stay

We found it very conveniently located for visits to towns, hill top forts, and charming countryside. Its location on the village green and opposite the pub is just right. The cottage itself is large and well equipped. We wanted for nothing.

Perfect

We stayed at Manor Cottage with my daughter in the run up to and after her wedding in Marlborough. The cottage was the perfect property for this occasion. Chocolate box pretty, it felt like a very special place with lots of history and character. Quite spacious too. Enough room for our 5 bridesmaids to arrive on the morning and us all get ready together. The outside space was lovely and both inside and out provided us with some beautiful wedding photographs. Well equipped, we wanted for nothing and the friendly pub across the road was an added bonus. The village shop just round the corner was also very handy. We would all recommend Manor Cottage as the perfect countryside getaway for any occasion.

Special stay in Manor Cottage

We had a very special stay in Manor Cottage over Christmas 2016. It could have been a sad and difficult time for us due to family illness and the need to assemble in Wiltshire at short notice. The lovely cottage and warm welcome transformed our experience. Christmas decorations, a welcome hamper, toasty warm, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Everyone in the village was very friendly and the walks from the house were a delight for the dog. I hope we can visit again.

A great stay in a lovely cottage. We will definitely return.

Mr S Cunliffe, April 2017

Just a short sojourn from our town but literally a world away. Peaceful, rolling, thatchy countryside.

Mrs B Graham, March 2017.

Perfect English Village Cottage

We spent a much needed break at Manor Cottage and our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. Manor Cottage has everything - very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and charming garden. The village shop in just yards away and if you've had a tiring day, the pub is within stumbling distance just across the road. Shalbourne is well located for visiting a myriad of other places - you could extend your holiday to several weeks and still not run out of new places to go! We loved the cottage and would highly recommend.

Charming, peaceful cottage, giving us a much needed break - many thanks.

Clean & well presented cottage - a true Hideaways!

M & Mrs S., September 2015

Lovely clean cottage and well equipped. The flowers & wine made it homely.

Mr & Mrs Dellacasa, September 2015

Lovely cottage in a quiet remote village

Manor Cottage is a lovely cottage directly across the road from the village pub. It comes equipped with everything you need to stay and make yourself at home. It is an excellent location to travel by car to visit many many sites throughout England from Oxford to Portsmouth or from Bath to London. It has a cute garden to spend an evening in, excellent parking in front of the cottage. It is convenient to the Post Office and small General store for your immediate needs. We've stayed here for the last two years and will do it again, if we travel to England soon.
