Introduction

In the quiet hamlet of Toller Porcorum (‘valley of pigs’), hidden away in the heart of South West Dorset within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this attractive, semi-detached 200 year old cottage offers a cosy and comfortable welcome to its visitors. Walkers can enjoy the numerous footpaths surrounding the cottage and explore the two local nature reserves, which are home to a huge variety of animals, birds, rare plants and butterflies. Eggardon Hill, (impressive Iron Age hill fort) is 2 ½ miles away and the South Dorset Heritage Coast with its fine beaches, fossil deposits and cliff walks about 9 miles. Visit the famous Cobb at Lyme Regis, enjoy Charmouth’s sandy beach or fish off the pier at West Bay. The famous swannery at Abbotsbury is also well worth a visit, as is the county town of Dorchester (10 miles away). This part of Dorset is also rich in historic houses and gardens.

What our guests say

Had a great week here. The cottage is comfortable and warm. Spent most days along the coast from Abbotsbury (Swannery, Tithe Barn and Sub-tropical gardens) through to West Bay, Lyme Regis, Seaton and lovely Beer. All within easy reach by car. The coast road between Abottsbury and West Bay is very scenic. Mapperton House and garden is en-route and will worth a visit. Walking locally is good with lots of footpaths. Try to take time to walk on Eggarton Hill (old hill fort/earth workings - quite atmospheric). Lots more to see and do. The only downside is the closest pub (Spyway) is too far to walk there and back for us oldies.

Mr and Mrs Morris, February 2017.

I rented Heber Cottage for my son, his partner and three children, visiting from Australia and staying for the month of November. They commented that "it felt like a home " and was very welcoming. Very well appointed with everything one would need, even down to toys for the youngest child of three. The middle girl of eleven even helped decorate the village Post Office for Christmas!! Lots of lovely walks, near the coast and above all quiet and peaceful. Highly recommended to friends and families and anyone wanting to relax and share West Dorset with those of us lucky enough to live here.
