Introduction

Navigate your way along a country lane into the tiny hamlet of Frogwell in South East Cornwall and you'll come to this charming Wesleyan chapel built in 1864, a romantic retreat in the peaceful Tamar Valley. Skilfully converted and extended, it provides stylishly furnished and well-equipped accommodation with touches of luxury, ideal for a couple wishing to explore this fascinating area.

The surrounding countryside is part of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering breathtaking landscapes, and also includes the ‘Cornish Mining’ World Heritage site with its numerous visitor attractions. The ancient river port of Morwelham Quay, where the BBC series “Edwardian Farm” was filmed and Cotehele (National Trust), a Tudor mansion on the banks of the Tamar, are a short drive away as is the ancient market town of Tavistock, gateway to the Dartmoor National Park. To the south many fine beaches and fishing harbours such as Looe, Seaton and Whitsand Bay are less than 20 miles away while the North Cornwall and South Devon coastlines are reachable in under an hour.

Now graded 4 stars with a Gold Award by Visit England, the chapel has undergone extensive restoration and has been extended on one side. It retains the original vaulted ceilings, arched windows and the old pulpit forms part of the stairs going up to the bedroom. The main living area is very light and spacious and there is a very private, deck at the back of the chapel with long views across fields to the surrounding countryside beyond.

Bathroom/wc with independent shower over the bath. Separate lobby leading out onto the deck.

Wonderful holiday retreat!

My wife and I stayed at Frogwell Chapel for 7 nights in September, and what a wonderful little place it is, a real credit to the owners Julie and Alan. Comfortable and beautifully and tastefully appointed. Fantastic views from the decked bbq area, where you can watch the buzzards soaring overhead - magic! Highly recommended, and to top it all a lovely welcome pack. So many, many thanks to Julie and Alan, for a wonderful break! Chris & Karen Stockdale, Nutley, East Sussex.

Frogwell Chapel

Fantastic premises. Building with great character, very clean and extremely well furnished and equipped. Great welcome pack including the "dog treats" Loved that premises were self contained within dog secure boundary fence and gated driveway parking. Direct access into field alongside for the dogs was an excellent feature to the property. Location is in a superb position for access to Dartmoor, Bodmin moor and coastlines to the North and South. We were very impressed with this property and will look to book again in the future.

5 stars for this enchanting chapel

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights during a holiday in the UK and we both wished it was longer. Frogwell Chapel is delightful - thoughtfully converted with chapel architecture blending into the tasteful decor. The sofas and bed are wonderfully comfortable, the kitchen very well equipped and we both agreed we have never stayed in such a clean holiday home. Well done! The welcome pack on arrival was quite outstanding and the host was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely brilliant

A beautifully converted chapel in a quiet, country area, with wonderful views and wildlife. The owners were very nearby in case of problems, but we had none!

Perfect!!

A truly fab place and a perfect retreat for a little peace & tranquillity close to lots of stunning coastal walks and a visit to Kit Hill on the return journey was also very much enjoyed. The owners were more than pleasant....all in all a very nice experience. We will for sure visit again!!

Perfect chapel in a perfect place

We stayed three nights at the chapel. The chapel itself in the owners own words is a bit special; she wasn't wrong, no expense spared, beautiful decor, wonderful well stocked welcome basket, the most comfortable & huge bed. I must say I went home and purchased the Laura Ashley cushion & throw once home - You have impeccable taste! Two very comfortable sofas, well appointed kitchen. The location is quiet but not too hidden away.....10 minutes' walk into Callington where there are two pubs and a restaurant, a huge Tesco & co-op should you need supplies.

There is a lovely field with breathtaking views to the rear of the property, decking area with sun loungers, table, chairs, BBQ.....very private & secluded and I'd imagine great in the summer (we stayed in winter). We spoke to the owner when we arrived and she was very lovely & friendly. Thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful chapel and of course giving us the opportunity to bring with us our puppy who also enjoyed his first holiday and taste of the sea!

We had an amazing, relaxing time. The chapel is lovely and such a peaceful retreat. The location is fabulous for exploring and we visited Kingsand, Mevagissey and Fowey. Would love to come back in the spring/summer to experience the verandah, the views and the wildlife.
