Situated along a country lane, on the edge of the village of Shrewton, Drovers' Barn looks out onto an idyllic 2 acre garden by the River Till, which is shared only with the owners, whose thatched cottage is some 20 yards away.

The location offers visitors a very central touring base, with easy access to the A303 (1 ½ miles away), making London 1 ½ - 2 hours' drive. Wiltshire's most famous pre-historic sites, Stonehenge and Avebury, the cathedral city of Salisbury and the World Heritage city of Bath are all within easy driving distance.

Between Shrewton and Salisbury to the south, a string of pretty villages nestle in the picturesque Wylye and Woodford valleys. There are many attractive cottages of stone, flint and chalk, traditional country pubs and good walking in the water meadows and on the chalk downland ridges above. For keen golfers there is an excellent course at High Post, near Amesbury. The village of Shrewton itself has local shops.

Drovers Barn was featured in the September/October 2012 edition of the official Britain magazine - see article "Where we stayed in wonderful Wiltshire."

Drovers' Barn is all at ground floor level with a wealth of exposed beams, old pine floors and considerable attention to lighting and décor - a really welcoming base from which to explore this interesting area. The cottage has eco-friendly heating and electricity systems.

Entrance into a large, attractive open plan living room, open to roof height, comprising a sitting area with log burner, dining area and well equipped fitted kitchen with electric, "Everhot" Aga style cooker. 2 bedrooms - one twin plus additional sleeping area for 2 children, access being via a small, removable 'apple' ladder. Interconnecting double bedroom with brass & iron bed and door to a secluded garden terrace. Bathroom/w.c. adjoining the twin bedroom with roll top bath & separate shower cubicle. Utility room.

Secluded garden areas by the living room and double bedroom (barbecue provided) and shared use of other parts of the large garden, including a small hut by the river, which is a site of special scientific interest and a haven for wildlife. In the wood over the river the owners keep Oxford Sandy and Blacks rare breed pigs (June to October) - a delight for children.

What our guests say

Beautiful cottage in a great location

Sitting at the edge of the village of Shrewton in Wiltshire, this barn conversion is a really lovely cottage in a peaceful, cottage garden setting. Its close to services, but feels like its in the heart of rural England. Its also brilliantly placed to see attractions like Stonehenge (a few minutes away) and Salisbury, with its beautiful medieval city centre and magnificent cathedral. Hosts Brian and Christian were warm and friendly, helpful with suggestions for places to eat or see, and very accommodating when we needed some help accessing facilities. We loved this barn and if we weren't already booked ahead we would be staying on longer. Quick tip: try The Boot Inn for a meal - brilliant!

Lovely Cottage

Drovers Barn is a lovely cottage very well situated if you want to visit Wiltshire and the south of England. We had a fantastic time, the house was very comfortable and fully equipped. We specially enjoyed the basket of food that we received as a welcome present. The hand made bread was delicious! We would love to go back.

Lovely cottage

Drover's Barn is a lovely cottage with everything one may require for a perfect holiday. Tastefully decorated it is both cosy and large. It is fully equipped with anything one may need, from the freezer to the dishwasher and the kitchen utensils fit for a chef. Thanks to the owners who made sure we were comfortable during our stay.

Recommended for families exploring Wiltshire!

Thanks for a lovely place for our week's holiday in Wiltshire - we'd happily live here it's so good! The welcome was great and the hamper of food and wine a nice surprise to start us off! We're a family of 6 with 4 young children and this property suited us down to the ground! The Everhot Aga made the kitchen living space cosy and was great for cooking whilst other utilities like a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and dryer were all appreciated - and there was SKY TV if we needed it :-). The bathroom was well-thought out with a deep free standing roll top bath and separate shower and bedrooms were just right for our kids- we really liked the sleeping space you could get to by climbing up the "apple ladder"- great idea! There's also plenty of safe space outside on the grassy lawn that the kids enjoyed playing football, rounders, badminton and cricket on - and we liked the bridges across the winterbourne river to see the spotted pigs! All in all a great place, friendly owners - we'd go again!

I love this house - I wish I lived here. I loved everything and the best thing I liked was the pigs.

The Supple family, April 2011

The barn is homely and cosy with the most beautiful garden. Thank you for the welcome basket and the freshly made bread. We thoroughly enjoyed everything.
