Introduction

Deep in the lovely Dorset hinterland lies the tiny hamlet of Droop, with this attractively modernised Grade II listed cottage. Long views of unspoilt countryside towards Bulbarrow Hill from the end of the very private garden provide an idea of the wonderful walks to be enjoyed in the immediate area; but Droop is also very centrally located with easy access to a wide variety of attractions. The ancient Saxon, hilltop town of Shaftesbury, and historic Sherborne (abbey and castle) are both a relatively short drive, with the cathedral city of Salisbury, the New Forest and the World Heritage, Jurassic Dorset coast all within comfortable reach for a day’s outing. There is a village shop and pub in nearby Hazelbury Bryan and for a wider range, the market town of Sturminster Newton is six miles away. Wonderful walks, rides, and fine views abound: Hambledon Hill, an iron age fort, in particular is a ‘must’.

Set behind the owners’ ancient farmhouse and tastefully converted from a 300 year old stone barn, the cottage provides bright, spacious accommodation and the large and attractive garden affords privacy and peace. This is a very relaxing place for a thoroughly enjoyable holiday in one of the country’s most unspoilt regions.

Accommodation

Entrance from garden side of cottage into kitchen/dining room. Large sitting room with electric woodburning-effect stove. Downstairs double bedroom. Separate shower room/wc. Location

What our guests say

Rural excellence at its best

My wife and myself, stayed in Droop Farm Cottage to familiarize ourselves with Dorset, and to visit possible rural locations for a property move from Surrey. The cottage is ideally situated to explore Dorset, it is extremely rural with all the advantages of wildlife, countryside, and peace, and yet it is not far from the Dorset Jurassic Coast, or neighbouring country or local attractions. The cottage is extremely well appointed, there is plenty of space, the beds are comfortable, and honestly, it wants for nothing. The owners, David and Tracey are extremely helpful, friendly, and genuine people, and their dog Alfie is a joy. They were extremely generous with their unexpected welcome pack, which included a “Jar-Of” Tracey’s award winning marmalade, and a delicious home baked cake. We recommend Droop Farm Cottage to one and all, you will not be disappointed.

Dog owners...do not miss out on this cottage

This is a must for those dog owners who love excellent walks from the door, in a quiet picturesque location and staying in a cottage that is truly a home from home for both humans and dogs alike. In addition you get the fabulous touch of a welcome basket from the owners containing Dorset cereals, biscuits, home made marmalade, Dorset Tea, bread and treats, toys and poo bags for the dogs. The cottage itself has a good layout with large kitchen, shower room/toilet, double bedroom and lounge downstairs with a further two bedrooms and a good sized bathroom upstairs. It was well decorated and very clean throughout. It has a large secure lawned area attached to it that was perfect for our two busy Spaniels with large open fields literally 50 metres walk away. Thank you for an excellent break.

We have had a wonderful week in your beautifully furnished and equipped cottage. The welcome basket was a nice surprise, and your cake as well as the 'Jar Of' were delicious. Droop Farm Cottage is by far the best rental accommodation that we have experienced in the UK, and we would recommend it to all. Many thanks to Tracey & David, and we will miss our daily visits from Alphie.

First class holiday cottage

This is a beautiful cottage with all the modern facilities that you could ask for. The gardens were excellent and a great place to just sit and relax. There is plenty to do if you enjoy the countryside and the coast and other attractions are only a short drive away. The owners, Tracey and David made us feel very welcome. I would certainly recommend this venue for anyone that wanted to visit Dorset.

Lovely, lovely, lovely

We booked this cottage for a long weekend over the May bank holiday and were very glad we did. The location was great, quiet and peaceful but with places to visit, (including the coast) and plenty of walks in the area. The garden and outside were well kept and there are terrific views from the patio area. We received a very warm welcome from Tracey and Alfie, (the dog) and felt immediately at home. The cottage was wonderful, with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting room and spacious comfortable bedrooms. Everything was spotless and the cottage was full of thoughtful touches. The welcome basket of bread, milk, Dorset cereals and Tracey's wonderful jar of marmalade was very much appreciated. If you are considering a break, short or long, with friends, family, old or young, this place fits the bill and we were sad to leave. Thank you David and Tracey for your wonderful hospitality and beautiful cottage.

Perfect accommodation for chilling and close distances to sightseeing highlights

Very nice house and garden, clean, quiet and with perfect fittings, even for rainy days with games and DVDs (excellent new films). The landlord is very helpful and the self-made jam is extremely delicious. From first arrival you feel good. Many sightseeing "objekts" in close distance. If we had the choice we would have extended our stay, but it was booked already.

A family week away from London with family from nz

A fabulous place for a week's holiday. Peaceful, clean, great hosts. There was nothing more we needed. The heating is great. Tracy, your jams etc. are so yummy in your kitchen shop. A nice extra and thanks for the chats. Sorry we missed you when we left. We all really enjoyed our stay.

Amazing Accomodations

Fantastic, remote location but provides easy, drivable access to Stonehenge, Corfe Castle, and other interesting locations. The home itself is fully equipped with everything we needed for a lovely four day stay. The kids loved the open garden, Alfie the dog, playing croquet, and being surrounded by nature. The quiet location really gave our family time to relax, read, talk, and spend quality time together. The owners are exceptional. They balance privacy and accessibility for questions about the local area. They also create a really incredible batch of jams, marmalades, etc....highly recommended. This stop was one of the most enjoyable and memorable during our trip around the world, including several thousand miles of driving in UK and Ireland. The whole family wants to return for another holiday.

Lovely, comfortable cottage in beautiful surroundings

We were two families with a toddler, a 7 year old and 3 dogs staying for a long weekend. The cottage is in excellent condition and furnished to a really high standard. Fabulous relaxing location, spacious rooms, really comfortable beds, lovely linen and nice fluffy towels. The owners also include a great welcome hamper. We had a fab weekend and would highly recommend Droop Farm Cottage. One of the nicest I've stayed in a great value for money.

Lovely Cottage

We had a great time and were very impressed with the fantastic cottage and location. David and Tracey were very welcoming (and Alfie). The very rural location was perfect for us and would go back in a shot!

Immaculately fitted out cottage in a beautiful and peaceful hamlet

We stayed in Tracey and David's lovely cottage in the grounds of their house. It was fitted out and furnished about a year ago to a really high standard. We had everything we needed. They made us feel at home; there was a very nice personal welcome pack and there is even one for dogs if you have them! We felt we could ask for help - though didn't need any - at any time. The garden is lovely to relax in and the countryside around is typical off-the-beaten track Dorset. Droop is a tiny hamlet (don't expect to find a Tesco down the road) but it doesn't take any time to get to attractive little villages or some of the more well known attractions of sea and countryside. We would definitely recommend this cottage

Tastefully decorated, well-thought out cottage

This is a beautiful little cottage, which has been tastefully decorated to a high standard. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, and fabulous countryside. Ideal place to stay if you want to get away from everything.

First time we had used your Hideaways web site, very impressed. We all enjoyed a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere created by David, Tracey and Alfie, Droop Farm Cottage was wonderful and far exceeded our expectations. By the end of our holiday we all wished we had booked longer.
