Believed to date from the mid 17th century, Cosy Cot has been restored with the utmost taste and care. Situated next to the historic village church with its Norman origins, it has been harmoniously extended and lavishly modernised inside whilst retaining every ounce of its original character and charm. Special features are the inglenook fireplace with its bressumer beam and the dining room with its vaulted ceiling. Cosy Cot was featured in the BBC series "Britain's Dream Homes."

Stapleford is an attractive country village with a local pub and network of foot and bridle paths, lying some 7 miles north west of the cathedral city of Salisbury along the Wylye Valley. From here there is easy access to a whole host of visitor attractions - Stonehenge, Wilton House, Old Sarum, the Georgian city of Bath and The New Forest and, with the A303 being just 4 miles away, London is reachable in under 2 hours.

For an ancient cottage, Cosy Cot is surprisingly light, many of the rooms having triple aspect windows. The downstairs rooms have under floor heating keeping the flagstone floors warm in the winter months and the bedrooms have floorboards with restored, cast iron radiators.

Brick pathway approach to a thatched entrance porch. Sitting room with inglenook fireplace containing a wood burning stove. 'Shaker style' fitted kitchen with excellent electric 'range' cooker, oak worktops, integral appliances. Utility/drying room. Rear hallway giving access to a double height dining room with vaulted ceiling and to a Victorian style bathroom/wc with roll top bath & separate shower cubicle. Stairs to 1st floor landing. 3 bedrooms: 2 doubles and 1 twin.

Thoughtfully landscaped garden, enclosed at the front by a white picket fence, and with a large stone/brick paved terrace at the rear. Stepped pathway winds up to a raised lawn area, the majority bordered by a picket fence; good views from here over the neighbouring fields. NB small children should be supervised in this area due to the steep drop.

What our guests say

Picturesque cottage in a little Wiltshire village

This is a beautiful little cottage in a "Picture Perfect" setting. Cosy Cot is nestled between the historic church and two other thatched cottages. The road is a "B" road with little traffic whilst we stayed there. It is close (maybe 500m) to the A36, but we did not hear any noise from this road. We stayed with our two teenage daughters and our dog. The kitchen is very well appointed, the reception room is a very good size for this type of property and the separate dining room is a good size too. It was nice to have the separate spaces. The stone floor tiles are very pet friendly and there is underfloor heating in the dining room. There are three nice bedrooms upstairs with decent storage for a small cottage. The single bathroom is downstairs. It has a good sized bath and a separate shower. The water pressure was fine. The fully fenced grounds were great for the dog. The bathroom is near the back door so it was easily accessible to wash the dog when we returned from our walks. There is no direct parking for the cottage, so you need to use the church carpark which is about 50m away. The property is good for easy access to both Stonehenge and Salisbury. We were able to walk along the bridle paths through the farmland and also along the River Wylye to Great Wishford. Stapleford has a garage/shop as well as a pub and the church has services on a Sunday.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cosy Cot. We have walked the dog up and around the hill behind the house. We explored Salisbury. Apart from the Cathedral and its beautiful Cloisters we would recommend The Fisherton Mill if you are looking for local artisan gifts...We did lots of Christmas shopping!! We enjoyed the Chapter House for lunch which has excellent ribs, burgers and slow cooked beef. We walked into Great Wishford which was pretty along the river. We had dinner at the Boot Inn in Berwick St James. We loved their home made smoked meats and would really recommend it to others. Such a beautiful home in a stunning location. Thanks.

I would like to thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage with us. We have thoroughly enjoyed it. The visit was made extra special because I could bring my human family with me. P.S. I would recommend the Boot Pub in Berwick St James for wonderful pub meals and genuine dog friendly environment.

Picturesque, good value; rural beauty with city access

A beautifully presented and lovingly furnished country gem, situated near to Salisbury and the historic Stone Henge. Cosy Cot provided a fantastic getaway for myself, my husband and 3 other friends (all 30+). The cottage itself is the perfect size for 5-6 adults or 4 adults and 2 kids- the only drawback is there is only 1 bathroom so you do have to juggle a little in the mornings! Having said that, the bathroom is quite large and well equipped, with a nice sized shower and bath. Bedrooms are also ample and the living room and dining room are comfortable and plenty big enough to accommodate this number of guests. The vaulted ceiling and show piece chandelier in the dining area were spectacular. The log burning hearth is a nice touch and the owners supply a small amount of logs to use here if you so wish. There is also a nice sized garden area, though it was too cold for us to use this! An addition of a hot tub would make this the actual dream! The kitchen is well equipped and I was impressed to see matching table wear (this never happens in holiday rentals!) It was also useful to have a dishwasher and the range cooker was stunning (although some instructions for this would be useful and we couldn't find any induction pans). The kitchen was well stocked with condiments and cleaning supplies. The under floor heating was an absolute luxury that we all loved, and there is also heating for upstairs - just take care to ensure this temp is turned up high enough during the day or the evenings can get a bit nippy. When we arrived the cottage was beautifully clean and tidy and it really is a chocolate box, picturesque treat, right in the countryside. For those interested, it's also right next to a Pokestop! Parking isn't ideal (you park just down the road) but there is plenty of space and because it's so quiet in the area, it isn't really too much of a problem. There are also a few pubs nearby, so if you fancy a walk for food you wouldn't have too far to go. There is a nice little farm shop about a 3 minute drive away too, which also serves breakfast and lunch (and the meals were lovely). It's also not too far from Salisbury, where you have literally hundreds of places to choose from to eat in, and plenty of really nice pubs, ranging from the contemporary to your more traditional British. Overall, a brilliant place to stay at a very competitive price for the quality of accommodation that you experience.

Thanks for a lovely stay in a very picturesque cottage. Excellent facilities and a stunning environment. Salisbuy is a great town and there are plenty of places to eat. For those who are interested, Stonehenge is also worth a visit. Many thanks.

We had a very enjoyable stay so much so we decided to stay a extra night. The cottage and surrounding area are beautiful and this made our weekend perfect..... we both had an amazing time. Cosy Cot was exactly what we wanted.

My wife and I and our dog stayed here for a very relaxing week. The cottage is lovely to look at from outside and equally impressive inside, spacious and well maintained. Outside, the gardens are well maintained and spread over 3 levels. The village is picturesque with a church next door and other thatched cottages in the street. There are a few good pubs locally and Salisbury only a few miles away.

We had a truly memorable week at Cosy Cot exploring the many different attractions that Wiltshire has to offer. Stonehenge, Bath and Longleat were all visited and didn't disappoint. Cosy Cot was just what we needed in terms of comfort as well as being very picturesque. Evenings were spent by the fireside dining in and playing board games. All this plus an excellent broadband connection - who could ask for more?

Cosy Cot is a lovely cottage, full of character, very well equipped and with everything you need. The location of Stapleford is beautiful with Salisbury nearby. PS our dogs loved it immensely too!
