On the edge of the pretty village of Hindon and approached through an attractive front garden, this ancient cottage has an immediately welcoming feel. Close to the borders of Wiltshire and Dorset, it is perfectly placed for easy access to the wide variety of attractions in the area. There are wonderful walks in the immediate vicinity - around Fonthill Lake for example, and slightly further afield in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the New Forest. The whole of this part of the world is full of historic sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury, and magnificent houses open to the public – Longleat, with its famous safari park, Stourhead and Wilton House to name but a few – as well as Bath with its Roman remains and Regency architecture and the nearby city of Salisbury which boasts one of the finest Cathedral Closes in the country. Hindon itself has two excellent coaching inns (and a convenient shop), and there are several well-known pubs not far away, including - very appropriately! - the Beckford Arms at Fonthill Gifford.

With its 17th century origins, Beckford Cottage retains the feel of an ancient dwelling whilst offering modern comforts and facilities; and the peaceful and private terraced garden at the rear of the property provides a relaxing place to enjoy a glass or two at the end of the day’s exploring.

Entrance from front garden to porch. Door to hall. Sitting room with woodburner and exposed brickwork and beams. Dining area at rear of room. Separate ‘galley’ kitchen with door to rear garden. Downstairs bathroom/wc with elec. shower over bath. Stairs from hall to two bedrooms, one with 4’6’’ double bed and the other with twin 3’ beds.

Outside: small front garden. Larger, private terraced garden at rear with patio (seating and barbecue) and several small terraced areas (NB steep steps).

What our guests say

Lovely cottage - great location

The cottage was charming, cosy, well equipped and had everything we wanted. The dog was welcome and we enjoyed having a garden to sit in too. Area also lovely would recommend walking in the Deverills north of A303!

Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here - the cottage and surrounding areas are beautiful. Hope to come back soon and explore further! Thanks.

Lovely cottage and excellent location for touring the area

I stayed here for 3 nights with my sister. It is a beautiful village and ideal for touring Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. The cottage is clean and cosy and very charming and with all amenities. Parking is 1 minute away just at the road at the side of the cottages. We spoke to the owner on the phone - she was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in a classic English country village in a very pretty cottage. The garden at the rear is beautiful but not idea for elderly people as it has some very steep steps however the front is very picturesque and secluded and a suntrap. We would definitely return for a longer period.

A perfect bolt hole

Beckford Cottage offered us a perfect place to unwind in very pretty surroundings. Comfortable and cosy and situated at the bottom of the village which gave us great views of the high street and the attractive red tiled roofs. We couldn't have wished for a better place to stay in this charming village and loved the convenience it provided for local walks of which there are many.

On return to Norway I would like to thank you for your good and swift follow-up during the booking process, and your well-designed website was very useful. We very much enjoyed our Wiltshire countryside stay and do not hesitate to rate Beckford Cottage 5 stars on a scale of one to five.

We had a lovely week. The garden is so beautiful with all the flowers, smelling great in the evening. We've enjoyed spending time in the cosy cottage. We had a great time exploring Wiltshire. Wardour Castle, Stonehenge & Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, Longleat House..... And we would never have dreamed to see all these wonderful sites under those sunny conditions! Thanks a lot for a great week in Hindon!
