In a magical and utterly peaceful setting by the River Avon, in the grounds of an impressive country house, Avon Turn Barn provides stunning accommodation within an imaginatively designed, timber-clad barn.

The main living area is a large, open plan room where a ‘Gothic’, floor-to-ceiling window and skylights provide an immediate sense of light and space and set off the barn’s beautifully crafted, oak timber structure. Sit back and admire the restful views over the attractive, cob-walled kitchen garden and across the extensive lawn to the river, enjoy a barbecue on the paved patio area just below the barn or sit out and relax on the various garden benches overlooking the river.

If you feel like exploring the surrounding area, Salisbury, with its magnificent Cathedral and Close, charter market and extensive range of shops, pubs and restaurants, is only three miles away, while the small country road running close to Avon Turn, will take you to the New Forest boundary in about 15 minutes. For a day’s excursion, Winchester, Bath, Stonehenge, Stourhead, Longleat and the Hampshire/Dorset coastline are all reachable in an hour or less.

Outside staircase with handrail on both sides leads up to a stable door entrance at 1st floor level. Very spacious, light-flooded, open plan, double height living room comprising sitting and dining areas in the middle of the room, a neat fitted kitchen area at one end and a kingsize bed beneath an ‘oriel’ window at the other. Separate shower room/wc.

Paved patio area with garden furniture and barbecue. Access to other parts of the owners’ beautifully landscaped, riverside garden.

What our guests say

Perfect getaway

The barn is in a great location, about three miles south of Salisbury, on a peaceful stretch of the River Avon. It's perfect for 2 - open plan, cosy, well equipped and tastefully decorated. Ideally situated for trips into the New Forest (about 10-15 minutes drive) and surrounding area with the added bonus of being able to walk to a decent pub. There's an outdoor patio area, surrounded by a lovely walled garden and the owners allow use of a decked area next to the river when they are not using it (they live in the adjoining large house - very helpful but unobtrusive. You get the impression they really want guests to enjoy the barn which was built 2/3 years ago). We spent a week there in October and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Perfect getaway from the city but close enough for services.

The cottage and grounds are excellent. Swans on the river, pheasant in the grounds make it seem surreal. Nice and comfortable.

...a very beautiful and tranquil place for a holiday, and an utter delight for us.

Tranquil, relaxing, perfect place, perfect location

We have just returned from a week at Avon Turn Barn. What a wonderful place. The accommodation is new and spotless and the beautiful feature window looks over the gardens and the grazing sheep. Esther and Chris have thought of everything to make this a comfortable stay. Milk in the fridge, coffee and tea, a bottle of wine, fresh flowers. The bed is really comfortable and we took to having breakfast in bed, whilst watching the morning news and planning our day - pure luxury. Although we ate out a fair bit it was great to have our own kitchen facilities too - again, everything has been thought of. We had some fantastic walks and Chris was really helpful with suggestions of where we might enjoy. If you go to Salisbury cathedral try and get on a guided tour, it's free and makes it so much more interesting than wandering around on your own. I enjoyed this holiday so much more than sitting on a beach for a week, it was an absolute treat.
