Tucked away amongst a small community of beach chalets and within a very few minutes’ walk of the tremendous stretch of sands which runs from Hayle to Godrevy Point, An Mordros (Cornish for ‘sound of the surf’) is something of a revelation. At first sight similar to its neighbours, this beach house has been completely transformed into an imaginative and contemporary space. Its location, so close to the sea, makes it ideal for families, with three and a half miles of sandy beach, rock pools and caves to explore, acres of marram-grassed sand dunes – known locally as ‘towans’ - and some of the best surfing in the country. The South West Coastal Path passes close by and there are some good cycle routes in the area. An enormous variety of attractions can be found in this part of Cornwall, and St. Ives with its galleries and restaurants, Land’s End, Penzance and St. Michael’s Mount (NT), as well as the Helford River on the South coast with its inlets and creeks, are all within an easy drive.
Enormous thought and care have gone into the restoration of An Mordros, the end result being a hugely impressive, eco-efficient home from home combining cutting edge technology with carefully researched design and tasteful décor. This is a wonderful house in which to relax, forget your cares and get to know this spectacular stretch of Cornwall’s coastline.
Entrance from parking area via ‘courtyard’ garden into a large, light-flooded, contemporary living space, open to roof height with an informal, relaxing sitting area and a large dining area by big glass doors, which open out onto an enclosed, private, patio. The gleaming white, open-plan kitchen has integral appliances including an induction hob. Overlooking the main living area is a mezzanine with glass balcony accessed by a fixed ladder with hand rail on each side - a wonderful eagle’s eyrie affording glimpses of the sea through the house’s top level triangular windows.
Three bedrooms: main bedroom with king-size double bed and French windows leading outside on both sides of the house; mezzanine area with casual seating and fold-down ladder. Small en-suite wet room/wc. Second bedroom with double bottom bunk and single above; small mezzanine area with drop-down ladder. Smaller, third bedroom with double bed. Ultra modern, luxury bathroom/wc with free-standing bath and big walk-in shower.
Outside, An Mordros has an attractively landscaped, private garden to the front and rear of the house, enclosed by fencing. The south-facing rear decking is perfect for al fresco dining – barbecue provided. The garden room with upright piano and games is great for kids and there’s a separate utility shed where surf boards are stored. Outside shower for surfers returning from the beach.
Brilliant property in brilliant location!
We stayed here, with my husband and 6 others, over Easter weekend and although the weather let us down, the property did not. It was clean and bright and was great for socialising with everyone. The location was absolutely amazing with some stunning views of the coast....it was just a shame we couldn't have stayed there for longer! We would definitely come back!Guest's review on Tripadvisor, 07 June 2016. 4 of 5 stars.
Fantastic property and excellent location!
We stayed here for a week with our two boys and we were very impressed with the property and the outside space too. In terms of location it is great as Gwithian beach is just at the bottom of the track and it is a fantastic beach and the location is ideal to get to other places around. We are already looking at booking for next year! Plenty of restaurants, bars and pubs nearby and a great place just to chill out and relax if that is all that you want to do!Guest's review on Tripadvisor, 06 June 2016. 5 of 5 stars.

We were stunned by the design and the amazing little touches of this house. Our two boys (aged 8 and 10) virtually disappeared for the first few hours as there was so much to see/do/explore. The garden room was a real hit........the piano became a favourite. The mix of furniture, accessories and decor is just wonderful and made me love staying here. This is our first trip to Cornwall and I think we have found our new yearly holiday home! We thoroughly recommend the Sunset Surf Cafe - great food, drinks and service. Also, The Red River Inn, the Godrevy Cafe and the butchers in Hayle were great too!. Thank you so much - we cannot wait to come back. If I had my way, I'd never leave! The Sorrell family, June 2016

Bathrooms are lovely. Location of the house is fantastic and amazing. Specially loved the floor heating.
