Introduction

In complete contrast to its name (locally, ‘town’ means ‘place’), Abovetown nestles in its own beautiful and private, eleven acre coombe, surrounded by its own fields and woods. Only ten minutes’ drive from Lostwithiel, the house is perfectly positioned for visitors to enjoy this attractive and interesting part of South Cornwall. For walkers there are quiet footpaths, or the South West Coastal Path which passes though ancient towns and villages such as Polruan, Looe and Polperro (7.5 miles) and Fowey (11 miles); and many sandy beaches are also within easy reach.

The whole region is full of historic and literary associations – Lostwithiel was once the county capital and the house Daphne Du Maurier wrote from is just the other side of the estuary. The National Trust property of Llanhydrock, the Eden Project near St. Austell and many fine gardens make interesting day excursions.

Extensively refurbished by its owners to a very high standard, Abovetown is a light and extremely attractive house with some exceptionally large rooms and is set in its own beautiful and private, eleven acre coombe – a wonderful place for a really relaxing holiday.

What our guests say

Words not enough

Words alone are not enough to express the magnificence that is Abovetown. Everything was just perfect - the beautiful, well-equipped house and garden, as well as the ideal location from which to explore the wonders of Cornwall. The fresh flowers and delicious goodies that awaited us upon our arrival made for an extra special and unexpected treat. Our week was much too short. We hope to get a chance to visit again sometime.

The best holiday cottage I have ever been to!

Abovetown has been a fantastic place for a lovely family holiday accommodating dogs. The house and grounds are brilliant for a relaxing, fun holiday and we have loved every minute of it - adults, children and doggies alike. Thank you so much.

The Cook and Dixon families, July/August 2015

Wonderful week in this beautiful house!

My daughter and I have had a wonderful week in this beautiful house. We were fortunate enough to have been blessed with better weather than we ever could have wished for; blue skies and sunshine every day! The dogs have loved the grounds. Thank you so much for the Easter surprise - it was much appreciated. It was well worth the 9 hours it took to get here!

An idyllic country cottage, a haven, which we have spent all week in with our Golden Lab . Beautifully decorated, warm and cosy on these stormy winter days and nights. This whole place has a wonderful homely feel.

Warm, comfortable and well-presented house in a great situation and location. Best rental we have stayed in - would definitely consider re-booking and would not hesitate to recommend.
