Shipton Moyne, Cotswolds Cottages
Welcome to the village of Shipton Moyne - a bit like Dibley from the famous TV show! Beautiful, traditional and every inch your quintessential English village. Impossibly ancient houses and cottages, smart, well-tended gardens, a thriving village community and one of the best named pubs in the land too (and it serves fine food too). Your holiday cottage, gorgeously named The Henhouse is a joy of a place to stay. Renovated completely from top to tail where space is a-plenty and extra details have been added for comfort, in fact you are are in for a treat.
You walk straight into a swish kitchen where you are greet by smart, pale units all under a granite surface, a heated flagstone floor beneath your feet and sweet views to the old henhouse (!!) where there are a small selection of fancy chickens, a few goats and some Shetland ponies, friendly neighbours over the fence of your garden. There's all you need to whip up a storm in the kitchen, and a traditional oak dining table too. Walk through to your living room with ample seating, a wood burning stove in fact all is very cosy thanks to underfloor heating. Upstairs are two good sized bedrooms each with village views and each with ensuite showers, so no need to share here.... Outside is a good sized garden area with table and chairs.

The Henhouse lies in the heart of the village of Shipton Moyne a stunning yet quaint spot just south of Tetbury. The village is a kind of 'no-through-village' where very little in the way of traffic passes through and is a truly rural setting - peaceful and quite and a reminder of the way things once were! This makes it both safe and attractive for families given that it is a good place to walk and cycle easily. The cottage is located just off what's called 'The Street' which is the High Street and only street in the village. It also has the joy of having one of ththe best named pubs in the country, and one which gets great noteriety: The Cat and Custard Pot! This is literally a mins walk from your door - it serves food all day.
Surrounding the village is some beautiful countryside.
Shipton lies in-between the two thriving market towns of Tetbury and Malmesbury, and is just a few miles from each of these towns. Tetbury is a great, somewhat unknown location often overlooked but in our opinion very much one of the Cotswolds' best place. It's main point of interest is its association with Prince Charles and Highgrove which is about 2 miles away. This aside it is a typical Cotswolds market town with a very good range shops from your large supermarket through to a very good selection of local, artisan shops and also a very large (well known in the trade....) selection of antique shops. We especially love and recommend the little The Hobbs House Bakery which sells superb breads and cakes and certainly is well worth a visit. In the centre is the old market place that often has daily sales of different items.
Malmesbury is no less quirky and attractive - in fact it is the oldest borough in England, with its Norman abbey and the beautiful Abbey House Gardens.
Beyond these two market towns are a variety of places to visit. VERY close by is Westonbirt, which boasts a famous arboretum with a magnificent tree collection, and which also hosts a variety of events throughout the year. You MUST look to see what is on at the arboretum as the events are well worth a visit and the walks in here are superb.
Bath and Cheltenham are within 20 miles which we love and are world famous as places to vist. .
