Detling, Sussex, Surrey & Kent Cottages
The Summer House sits in a great position in the rolling Kent countryside. The small and picturesque village of Detling is found on the slope of the North Downs, just north east of Maidstone, and on the Pilgrims' Way - ideal if you're looking for a break only a short distance away from London. Even better there's a great pub in the village (The Cock Horse Inn) and the good news is, it's within easy walking distance!
This charming, detached property is oak framed and weather boarded in a traditional style. This exterior conceals an ultra modern interior which was inspired by the owner's experience of a stunning property they stayed at in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales in Australia. Upon their return, they decided to build 'The Summer House' and have created a real gem in the heart of the countryside. It is surrounded by trees and open space, yet near to the swimming pool, itself in the garden of the owners' house. In fact we see it as the ultimate retreat for country getaway, due to the number of very desirable features including the use of the open air swimming pool, a hot tub, state-of-the-art shower cubicle/steam cabinet and home cinema. Inside the property, notable details include underfloor heating, an impressive range of lighting options, smoked glass, privacy-affording living area window and height adjustable, pneumatically operated "bucket" dining seats. You really can't ask for more!
Entrance via a stable door into:
Open plan Living Area with L-shaped, leather settee and pull down screen for home cinema experience, a Kitchen Area, fully fitted, with oven, dishwasher and microwave, and Dining Area with a small circular dining table and stools.
Downstairs Shower Room/WC with shower cubicle/steam cabinet incorporating various programmable shower options - impulse jets, "deluge" shower, etc. plus an integral radio.
Conservatory with two comfortable armchairs and views over the garden.
Bedroom One (via open tread stairs and with limited head height) with double bed (4ft 6), timber shelves, small chest of drawers and access out onto a balcony with views over the garden, farmland, vineyards and North Downs beyond.
Small paved sitting-out area, use of the garden area immediately outside the conservatory and access to the owners' woodland. Barbecue. Use of the heated open air swimming pool from 01 June to 31 August. Hot tub. Infra red patio heater. Please note that there is some traffic noise when you are outside.
Electricity usage charged by £1 / £2 coin meter. Sorry no pets. Unsuitable for babies, small children, the elderly or infirm due to stairs. No smoking.
The surrounding area offers enormous scope to its visitors. Leeds Castle (only 5 minutes' drive), Igtham Mote (National Trust), Hever Castle, Chartwell (National Trust.) Sissinghurst (National Trust), the historic naval dockyards and Dickens Centre at Chatham are some of the attractions within an hour's drive.
The cathedral city of Canterbury and the north Kent coastline are also easily accessible via the M2 motorway.
There is also immediate access from the garden onto footpaths leading to the Pilgrims' Way and North Downs Way, which end at Canterbury, while Junction 7 of the M20 motorway, which links the M25 (London orbital route) with the Channel Tunnel and the ferry port of Dover, is a mile away.
"My mum and I stayed in this beautiful summer house over the bank holiday weekend. The use of the hot tub and heated swimming pool was excellent! The projector screen and surround sound to chill out and watch movies on was a great feature. The gardens were absolutely stunning and leading towards a wood at the back! Perfect place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. The owners were friendly and happy to help if needed."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2017-09-01
"The summer house was absolutely beautiful, very cosy and comfortable with swimming pool and hot tub. The grounds and area were stunning, Mary and Douglas are very friendly; they made us feel very welcome and gave us good advice on pubs and places to visit; we would recommend staying here 10/10. We will definitely be coming back."Mr Langfear 2017-08-26
"If you're looking for a quiet romantic getaway this is the perfect spot stunning views and massive gardens for yourself, nice pool and Jacuzzi is really good. Very friendly owners and they live in site so if you need anything there always ready to help (but they keep to themselves so you don't really see them) just 10 -15 min from cinemas and bowling Looking forward to visiting again."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2017-08-02
