Lostwithiel, Cornwall Cottages
The present house at Castle (a former medieval manor) was built about 1810, its mainly classical lines incorporating gothic features. The scale and materials are typical of a Cornish country house with massive granite quoins, pierced balconies and arched multipane windows in dressed granite. The gardens are extensive and are particularly impressive. They contain a variety of large trees (Redwoods, Noble Fir, Beeches, Palms) and shrubs (30 ft Rhododendrons, 20 ft Camellias and Azaleas).
We offer two apartments, Queen's and King's. Each has an area of garden with garden furniture and barbecue in addition to access to the surrounding grounds. The two apartments at Castle can be booked jointly as a whole unit sleeping up to 8 people plus 2 babies, using an interconnecting door at 1st floor level, or as 2 individual self-contained apartments, with private entrances from the gardens.
The accommodation is furnished so as to create a comfortable ambience; attention has been paid to interior decor and the apartments have thermostatically controlled underfloor heating, open fires, fitted kitchens and state-of-the-art bathrooms.

Beautiful, contemporary bathroom/w.c. with freestanding bath, shower attachment & 'his' & 'hers' basins. Small utility room.

Small Apartment is in the West Wing of an impressive manor house in a secluded wooded valley called Castle. Situated in south-east Cornwall, a mile south of medieval Lostwithiel, Castle is the former county capital town. The surrounding area has been described as the most beautiful and unspoilt part of the county, with many quiet footpaths (the ancient Saints Way passes by the front gate) and shady byroads.
You'll find many attractive and secluded beaches (even in high season) within a short drive including Pridmouth, near Menabilly (Daphne Du Maurier's "Manderley"). Polkerris (six miles), Lantic Bay (10 miles) and the historic Port of Fowey (seven miles) are also close by. If you want to explore the dramatic landscapes of Bodmin Moor and the north Cornish coast then both are within half an hour's drive. Beautiful historic homes and gardens such as Lanhydrock House (National Trust) and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are nearby while St Michael's Mount, Lands End and The Tate in St Ives make interesting day trips.
