Lostwithiel, Cornwall Cottages
Built in the early 19th century, the current house at Castle (a former medieval manor) has elegant, classical lines and gothic features. Typical of a Cornish country house, it is built from local granite and is a very impressive sight as you approach it. Once inside, you'll find a lovely, homely ambience where close attention has been paid to the decor and soft furnishings, including thermostatically controlled underfloor heating, an open fire, a contemporary, fitted kitchen and a state-of-the-art bathroom.
You'll also have use of the extensive, and very impressive, gardens with a variety of large trees (Redwoods, Noble Fir, Beeches, Palms) and shrubs (the Rhododendrons, Camellias and Azaleas are particularly stunning) although you'll also be able to enjoy your own garden area with garden furniture and a barbecue.
The two apartments at Castle (the other is King's Apartment - Castle H601) can be booked jointly as a whole unit sleeping up to eight people plus two babies, using an interconnecting door at first floor level, or as two individual self-contained apartments, with private entrances from the gardens.
All at first floor level, the entrance is via granite steps to the side of the house.
Kitchen/Dining Room with oven, halogen hob, microwave and small, circular dining table.
Living Room with two sofas, TV, Art Nouveau open fireplace and arched windows overlooking the front garden.
Bedroom One with king size bed (5ft).
Beautiful, contemporary Bathroom/WC with freestanding bath, shower attachment and 'his' and 'hers' basins.
Small Utility Room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Allocated area with garden furniture (not completely private). Use of communal grounds.
Sorry no pets. Damage deposit of £100 payable for joint bookings of both apartments. No smoking. Weekly lets between 13/07 & 31/08/18 starting on a Friday - short breaks of three nights or more will be available during this period if booked within 60 days of arrival.
Queen's Apartment is in the West Wing of an impressive manor house in a secluded wooded valley called Castle. Situated in south-east Cornwall, a mile south of medieval Lostwithiel, Castle is the former county capital town. The surrounding area has been described as the most beautiful and unspoilt part of the county, with many quiet footpaths (the ancient Saints Way passes by the front gate) and shady byroads.
You'll find many attractive and secluded beaches (even in high season) within a short drive including Pridmouth, near Menabilly (Daphne Du Maurier's "Manderley"). Polkerris (six miles), Lantic Bay (10 miles) and the historic Port of Fowey (seven miles) are also close by. If you want to explore the dramatic landscapes of Bodmin Moor and the north Cornish coast then both are within half an hour's drive. Beautiful historic homes and gardens such as Lanhydrock House (National Trust) and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are nearby while St Michael's Mount, Lands End and The Tate in St Ives make interesting day trips.
