Property Information

One of two adjoining cottages, Carriage House is tucked away in a woodland clearing on the historic Holne Chase Estate, nestling on the south east edge of Dartmoor National Park - absolute bliss for those seeking a break away from it all. Sympathetically restored to maximise the sense of space and light, you'll find accommodation designed and finished to a high standard. Oak flooring throughout the main downstairs rooms gives both a sense of style and practicality while there is plenty of flexibility on offer with dividing doors which can be fully opened, for more space, or closed, if you want a cosier feel. On both floors, there is plenty of sleeping accommodation, mostly with ensuite bathrooms, so ample room for a large family.
In front of the house, there's a lovely terrace for sitting out, super for relaxing and enjoy the views over the lawns and woodland beyond.

A particular bonus for guests is that fly fishing for salmon and sea trout can be arranged on a private and higly regarded stretch of the Rivert Dart which passes through the grounds.

Map & Local Information

Despite its rural setting, there is easy access to a huge variety of attractions and amenities within this popular holiday location.

For the active, or simply if you want to admire it's stunning scenery, Dartmoor itself offers walking, riding and fishing.  if you're drawn to the coast, then there are unrivalled sights less than an hour away by road such as beautiful cliff walks, hidden coves and exhilarating sailing in famous estuaries such as Salcombe and Newton Ferrers.

The cities of Exeter and Plymouth are also easily reached, as are countless excellent restaurants, and a particularly wide variety of places of historic interest, many of them National Trust properties such as Compton Castle, Killerton House, Cotehele (just over the border into Cornwall), and the very unusual and interesting Castle Drogo, right on Dartmoor itself.

A particular bonus for guests is that game fishing (salmon and sea trout) can be arranged on a private, productive and highly regarded stretch of the River Dart, which passes through the grounds. The outstandingly beautiful area of woodland and riverbank (an SSSI) below the cottages is also available for guests to walk and picnic in - a rare privilege.

"All three generations of the family enjoyed their stay very much. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful and the house itself was ideal, being spacious, warm and comfortable. The furnishings and equipment were of the highest standard. All in all we voted this our best and most enjoyable booking in many years."
