Arriving after your journey, you'll be thrilled to sink into the comfy sofas on offer and take in the amazing view across to Hambledon Hill in the distance. There's an equally attractive view to be had inside with the exposed timber frame and cladded walls and ceilings giving a tremendous feeling of space in the living area. Being open plan it means that families and friends can cook, relax and play in close proximity yet there are lovely bedrooms and plenty of space outdoors to retreat to if you prefer a bit of peace and quiet. A great location from which to enjoy the great outdoors - not only are you based on a smallholding where the owners keep sheep and chickens, but the surrounding area is marvellous for walking or cycling.
Join the Dorset 'Trailway' which runs from Shillingstone to Sturminster, explore Hambledon Hill Fort (Iron Age ditches and fortifications), Hod Hill and Bulbarrrow (900ft - the highest point in Dorset) or take a stroll down the network of pathways leading to the village (Child Okeford), where you'll find an exceptionally wide range of facilities including a post office, general stores, weekly fish & chip van, two pubs and a health and beauty salon. Just up the track, you can visit the organic farm shop and art gallery run by the owner of Giddy Acre Barn, with regular exhibitions by major contemporary artists.
For other local shopping and sightseeing, the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury and Georgian Blandford Forum are both within 20 minutes' drive. Further afield, take a day trip to Dorset's spectacular and richly varied World Heritage Jurassic coastline with Poole Harbour (Sandbanks, Studland Bay, Brownsea Island) and the Isle of Purbeck (Corfe Castle, Durdle Door and Kimmeridge) being about half an hour's drive directly south of here.
