Hewood, Dorset Cottages
With its unusual and unique history, Hill Cottage sits in a wonderful position overlooking the delightful hamlet of Hewood on the borders of Dorset and Somerset. The detached property is built of cob and has connections with the renowned landscape painter Lucien Pissarro who died here in 1944.
The cottage is inviting and welcoming with its bright, neutrally decorated rooms. There is an added bonus of an open fire and a woodburner. Outside you will find garden furniture to relax in at the top of the terraced gardens, making it a peaceful and pleasant place to enjoy the far reaching views.

You'll find plenty of attractions in both Somerset and Dorset to keep you busy. Forde Abbey and Cricket St Thomas (wildlife park) are very close by, with historic houses such as Montacute and Barrington Court (National Trust) not much further.
The area is rich in ancient sites like Maiden Castle and Eggardon Hill, and wonderful walks abound. Lyme Regis and Charmouth are about a 20 minute drive, giving access to the famous Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, with superb beaches and cliff paths.
For a day out the cathedral city of Exeter, the county town of Dorset, Dorchester, and Somerset's lively county town, Taunton, are all within an hour's drive.
"Thank you for the goodies and the well stocked/equipped kitchen. Lovely and peaceful."The Stokes family 2017-05-01
"Just wanted to say a massive thank you to the owner of Hill Cottage and the team at Hideaways, for a wonderful mini break between Christmas and New Year. The cottage was superbly equipped with everything a family needs and a gorgeous base for visiting our Somerset family. The seasonal extras (crackers, festive tableware, chilled fizz, cake) plus two roaring fires on arrival were extremely thoughtful extras. It was also super being able to bring our little dog; he enjoyed himself too! The booking process through Hideaways was extremely easy and the price paid very reasonable. It was also refreshing being able to book a cottage for a few nights rather than a whole week over the Christmas/NY period. Thanks again."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2017-01-13
