Stunning countryside surrounds this location within the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with excellent opportunities for walking, riding and cycling.
The 'no through' lane on which the cottage is situated, leads directly up to Martin Down, a large area of chalk downland, designated a National Nature Reserve, which supports a huge range of wild flowers, birds and butterflies.
Martin itself lies in a valley, the main street lined with period houses and picturesque thatched cottages. There is a community village shop with restricted opening hours and a church of Norman origins.
About 15 minutes drive is the small country town of Fordingbridge on the banks of the River Avon, with its independent shops, restaurants and pubs. Beyond that is the New Forest National Park with a wealth of outdoor activities on offer, such as walking, cycling and riding, as well as its wildlife, all set within this unique landscape.
Further afield but within easy driving distance for a day's outing are the beaches of the South Hampshire and Dorset coastline and a plethora of attractions such as Stonehenge, Stourhead Gardens (National Trust), Longleat Safari Park, the World Heritage city of Bath and the cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury, the latter being only about 20 minutes' drive.
"Comfy, well-appointed cottage. Really enjoyed our short stay. Food at The Rose and Thistle was outstanding."The Middletons 2017-08-26
"We had a wonderful stay at Pippin in Spring half term. Frosty and bitterly cold outside, but with the underfloor heating the children were running around with no socks on inside. The apartment is thoughtfully designed, with lots of space, and a well thought-out kitchen. The area is fantastic for exploring, with masses to do, even in the dead of winter. We had lovely days out in Salisbury, Mudeford, the New Forest and Hengistbury Head. Would love to return one day, hopefully to take advantage of the adjoining property and middle room."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2016-03-16
"We have stayed in lots of cottages over the years and I must say that this is definitely one of the best. Everything was very clean and tidy. Everything we wanted was provided. The little kitchen is very well thought out and made cooking a pleasure. In response to a previous review I would just like to say that the extraction hood was clean and worked, the windows sparkled, the washing machine drawer was spotless!!! We all slept like logs every night and were warm and toasty - under floor heating being very effective. Beds very comfortable and the little twin room was perfect for our children (8 & 10) a little dark during the day but we weren't on the doorstep of the New forest to spend the day in bed!! Fantastically located for exploring and very private. WiFi / mobile service was a bit shaky but that suited us as we were enjoying our escape from normal life! We highly recommend these cottages and hope to return with extra family next time so that we can have both cottages and the centre area."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2015-11-03
