Martin itself lies in a valley, the main street lined with period houses and picturesque thatched cottages. There is a community village shop which is open daily with a food market and coffeee shop on Saturday mornings. The nearest pubs are The Compasses Inn in Damerham and The Rose & Crown in Rockbourne, both 3.7 miles away. The village also has a church of Norman origins.
About 15 minutes drive is the small country town of Fordingbridge on the banks of the River Avon, with its independent shops, restaurants and pubs. Beyond that is the New Forest National Park with a wealth of outdoor activities on offer, such as walking, cycling and riding, as well as its wildlife, all set within this unique landscape.
Further afield but within easy driving distance for a day's outing are the beaches of the South Hampshire and Dorset coastline and a plethora of attractions such as Stonehenge, Stourhead Gardens (National Trust), Longleat Safari Park, the World Heritage city of Bath and the cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury, the latter being only about 20 minutes' drive.

"Comfy, well-appointed cottage. Really enjoyed our short stay. Food at The Rose and Thistle was outstanding."The Middletons 2017-08-26
"We had a wonderful stay at Pippin in Spring half term. Frosty and bitterly cold outside, but with the underfloor heating the children were running around with no socks on inside. The apartment is thoughtfully designed, with lots of space, and a well thought-out kitchen. The area is fantastic for exploring, with masses to do, even in the dead of winter. We had lovely days out in Salisbury, Mudeford, the New Forest and Hengistbury Head. Would love to return one day, hopefully to take advantage of the adjoining property and middle room."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2016-03-16
