Fordingbridge, New Forest Cottages
It would be hard to find a more peaceful and idyllic setting than the one in which Undercastle Cottage is situated. The thatched cottage is found at the bottom of a wooded track in the heart of the beautiful New Forest and stands on the banks of the famous Hampshire Avon River. There is immediate access into the woods and open heathland and keen fisherman will be delighted with more than half a mile of private fishing - there is a rowing boat available upon request during the summer months. The river is famous for large Barbel and also Chub, Pike, Trout and Roach, reputed as the most famous stretch of river for fishing in England!
From the outside you see a traditional green oak timber framed house with a thatched roof and climbing roses in front of you. Step inside, you will be awestruck by the amazing double height, timber framed ceiling in the living room. All of the rooms have been carefully furnished with some delightful antique pieces of furniture.
With two detached outhouses close to the main cottage providing additional sleeping accommodation - The Fishing Lodge and The Hayloft - this is a truly unique and desirable place to spend some time getting away from it all with family and friends. Undercastle Cottage has been awarded 4 star grading and as well as a gold award for exceptional quality of accommodation by Visit England. 'The Sunday Time's named it as one of the 'Top 10 Best Cottages 2010'. It also featured in 'The Times' travel article '50 best cottages in Britain 2016' as well as 'The Telegraph's' '10 best cottages with moorings 2017'. Filming has been completed for the new BBC2 programme Bob and Paul Go Fishing and will be available in the spring. This cottage comes very highly rated by previous guests!

"Location and style of the property. We parked the car and didn’t use it until we left. Lovely walks through the forests with plenty of pubs to choose from for lunch."Wilson
"My husband and I stayed at Undercastle Cottage in the last week of August 2017 with our 12 year old daughter, my sister and brother in law and Hugo (4 legged species). From the moment we arrived we could feel the stress of modern day living falling away. This place is simply stunning. From the perfect landscape and surroundings to the blissful sights and sounds of nature. If you want the ideal location without wifi to distract you then stay here. I will say our daughter practically hyperventilated when she found out there was not to be any wifi, but she soon found herself far too busy enjoying the simple experiences of childhoods forgotten.....swans, ducks, ponies who came to visit at the gate (don't forget to close it), donkeys, cows, the swing in the garden, the hammock by the river, the rowing boat, the sunsets, the frogs......the list could go on and on. A super holiday with lovely memories, especially for my husband as he caught a huge Chubb after many hours of patience. As an aside the cottage is not far at all from many local attractions like Sandbanks, Poole, Portsmouth, Monkey World. There is also a fantastically stocked community shop in Woodgreen (less than 5 minutes drive / 20 minute walk) which sells local produce and essentials. Stay here and you will not be disappointed."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2017-09-09
