Flaxley, Forest of Dean & Wye Valley Cottages
The Old Mill is an outstanding holiday home is simply superb surroundings. A fabulously spacious home set off the beaten track hidden behind private gates, it is the perfect choice for a family or group of friends. Inside you'll be bowled over by the charming architectural features such as the exposed timbers and beams and brickwork. Especially appealing is the large, open plan kitchen diner, the heart of the home, which has great views across the garden. The owners have carefully and lovingly created a tour de force and we absolutely love it - no expense has been spared in the use of high quality, natural building materials adding to the luxurious feel.
We were also drawn to the glass-fronted balcony which overlooks the courtyard and grassed areas. Fancy fly fishing?! Well there is a private lake about 500 yards away where guests can fish for free to catch Rainbow and Brown trout, and keep one or two for the BBQ! It really is that delightful that you'd be hard pressed for a more relaxing, beautiful retreat in Gloucestershire. All in all, prepare for any expectations you have before you come to be exceeded!
For larger parties, The Old Mill is can be rented alongside H161 - The Old Dairy (adjacent at right angles) making accommodation for up to ten guests. There is ample dining space to seat ten guests in The Old Mill.

Close to the Forest of Dean, this is a wonderfully peaceful location bounded by a stream and with immediate access to the owners' fields and lake (well-stocked for fly-fishing enthusiasts). With wildlife in abundance and plenty of wonderful walks right on your doorstep, there really is so much to see and do in a great area for a family holiday.
Symond's Yat Rock on the River Wye, with its spectacular views spanning several counties, is half an hour's drive away and you can also hire a canoe in the village or enjoy a riverside drink at one of the pubs. Plenty of walks and cycle routes can be found in the Forest of Dean itself which is a magical setting with its ancient mines and 300 year old oak trees. From nearby Lydney you can take a trip on the newly opened Dean Forest Railway (steam locomotive to Parkend).
There are many historic sites to explore in the region - the Welsh border castles, Tintern Abbey, the cathedral city of Gloucester - while the Cotswolds, Brecon Beacons and the Malvern Hills are all within easy driving distance.
For local shops, pubs and restaurants, Newnham On Severn is only four miles away. From here you'll find excellent views of the river (watch the surfers on the famous Bore!) and almost immediate access across the fields to the Severn Way footpath.
