Within a 10 mile radius are the prehistoric monuments of Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill & West Kennet Longbarrow, several "White Horses" carved out of chalk on the North Wiltshire Downs, the National Trust village of Lacock and the Kennet & Avon Canal great for narrow boat trips.
A little further away but still within easy driving distance are historic market towns of Marlborough, Devizes and Bradford-on-Avon, the Georgian city of Bath.
"We were delightfully surprised at the quality of this little gem of a cottage. Situated on a busy but beautiful green in Calne. We had no problem parking near by, just across the little road. The cottage was spotless and all in good working order. A big and well equipped kitchen. The sitting room was cosy but comfortable. Upstairs to the bathroom which was well thought out, modern and spotless (here is my only two lesser comments both in the bathroom: as I have arthritis in my hands I found the taps a bit tricky to operate and we live in Holland where shower pressure is excellent, we found the shower lacking a bit of pressure, both luxury problems when it comes down to it). Then we come to the beautiful and luxurious bedroom. A gorgeous bed with fresh, white, quality bed linen. The bed was perfect for us, slightly on the soft side which is exactly how we like it. We both are fussy sleepers, however we slept extremely well here. Cara and her husband were very helpful and eager to assist. We would recommend the Talbot Inn for nice pub food. Unfortunately we would give the White Heart a miss next time. We visit Wiltshire quite often to see friends and family and we hope to book another stay in the Cottage-on-the-Green soon."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2016-05-02
"Excellent property, very well equipped and ideal location for our winter stay when it was fairly wet and grey! Co-op a handy 2 minute walk from a quiet and lovely location on the green. So many great places to visit and walk within a short distance (15 to 20 minutes) - and beautiful Bath a short train journey away. The welcoming owners live next door and we cannot honestly find anything to suggest that would improve this small and lovely cottage. Warm, cosy, modern, well equipped with everything we needed and a really comfortable bed with a soft duvet to snuggle under!"Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2015-12-07
"Just back from the most tranquil few days in this beautiful cottage. Everything about the place was perfect. It is decorated and equipped to the highest standard - there was nothing I needed that wasn't there already. The setting is beautiful - facing a historic green, peaceful and charming. Parking is easy and it is in an area where there is so much to see and do. The cottage is a one-off with its quirky shape (would love to know more about its history) and it provides the perfect place for a break from routine. Calne itself was not especially remarkable but has all amenities and is in the middle of an area of beauty and history. I have many reasons to go back and explore more."Guest's review on TripAdvisor 2014-08-14
