Buckland Monachorum Dartmoor National Park Holiday Cottages

REFINE SEARCH

Nestling close to the edge of Dartmoor, Buckland Monachorum is an attractive Devon village with its roots in Saxon times. The name roughly means ‘land owned by the monks’, who inhabited nearby Buckland Abbey in the 13th century, while Sir Francis Drake attended the local church during the 16th century when living there. Nowadays you can dine or drink in the local pub which bears his name (and possibly some beams from the ships he sailed in) – The Drake Manor Inn.
