Stephen “The site pictures made many rooms look a lot larger than they actually were.”
We could not all sit in the lounge for instance. Apart from the main bedroom, the double beds were minimum size making things a bit of a squeeze. For a house sleeping 10, there are nowhere near enough mugs. There were 12 mugs which meant we were constantly having to wash them up or run the dish washer. On the plus side, the garden was large and lovely, and the vegetable patch produced excellent potatoes and rhubarb! In addition, the house was spotlessly clean.
- Stephen, July 2021Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Byways. We take all feedback on board and we will speak to the owner about getting more mugs at the house. We are glad that you enjoyed the stay and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner
John “This is a lovely house in an equally lovely village.”
The house and gardens are exceptionally well looked after and contained everything we needed for our weeks stay. The additional touches, like the small welcome pack and noting which seating cushions were feather (due to allergies) was a lovely touch. The village has a great shop catering for all your everyday goods and the pub serves brilliant food. There are numerous woodland walks in and around the village which added to our holiday experience. We would highly recommend this house.
- John, July 2021Thank you for your feedback! You're always welcome to return in the future! Property Owner
Nicola “Absolutely brilliant house and garden.”
Spacious, clean, well stocked. Lovely quiet location with horses roaming, local shop and great local pub. Would highly recommend for a family get together. Amazing stay, thank you.

Fantastic cottage great amenities local pub, community shop stunning surroundings could not have asked for anything else
- Caroline, September 2020Nicole “Amazing cottage which served as the perfect base for an action packed, fun week away.”
Although we have been to the New Forest numerous times this is the first time we had been to this part of it (normally staying Brockenhurst way). The cottage itself was spacious, very clean and had any facilities you could imagine needing. Bedrooms were all very comfortable and nicely arranged. Due to the great weather we had we ate in the garden a lot and the owners even let us help ourselves to the fruit/veg garden so had fresh raspberries. The cottage location is only a short walk from the local village shop and pub, plus lovely walks right outside the front door from the green (where you can find ponies, cows and donkeys). We would highly recommend this cottage and really hope to return again soon.
- Nicole, September 2020Thank you for the amazing feedback in the Byways and for highly recommending the cottage. We look forward to your return. Property Owner
Jessica “We really enjoyed our stay at Byways.”
The house was perfect for a multi-generational holiday as there was plenty of space and facilities for everyone so we never felt on top of each other. Having the separate snug and the large dining table were great. The location and outdoor space were also fantastic. The local pub served great food although the service was terrible. Perhaps a sign of the times rather than their usual standard.
- Jessica, August 2020Richard “Beautiful house with plenty of room.”
Would have preferred gas cooker.
- Richard, August 2020Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Byways. It's lovely to hear comments about your stay and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner
Christine “Byways is a charming well-appointed house surrounded by delightful gardens including a vegetable plot.”
The city grandkids loved the novelty of picking ripe raspberries for breakfast! The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the standard of furnishings is very high throughout the house. Byways is ideal for a multigenerational family holiday. Mealtimes were relaxing as the five children in our group had their own set of garden furniture at a distance from the adults’ al fresco dining table! The village of Woodgreen is on the edge of the New Forest. It’s an ideal location for exploring the Forest and seeing the horses, ponies and donkeys on the nearby Common. Safe footpaths and cycle ways are close by and uncrowded beaches a short drive away. There’s a friendly village pub and a community store that sells great bread and local produce a short walk from Byways. The owners are exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The tray of delicious biscuits, chocolates and conserves waiting for us on arrival was a lovely touch and much appreciated.
- Christine, July 2020We are pleased to hear your grandkids loved picking raspberries and that meal times were relaxing with the cottage facilities. Thank you for the tip on the local pub and community store! Property Owner
Chris “Beautiful cottage in a superb location.”
The owners have thought of everything to make the holiday as relaxing and comfortable as possible.
- Chris, November 2019Robin “This house felt like a home from the moment we entered it.”
We couldn’t have felt more welcome - from the welcome basket left by our hosts Jane and Tim to exceptionally comfortable beds, well equipped bathrooms and kitchen and a delightful garden. A real break away from a busy hectic world for our whole family aged from 4 months to the 70s. We would very much like to return.
- Robin, October 2019Thank you for your lovely comments and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Property Owner
Richard “Very warm welcome from Jane.”
The house perfectly met the needs of our family party covering 4 generations. Thoughtful little touches like socket covers to make sure the youngest member of the group could enjoy herself safely. We loved the garden with its apple trees and raspberries. Great location on the edge of the common and easy stroll to excellent pub and community shop. Fantastic weather. Hope you organise that for all your guests.
- Richard, September 2019Eric “Lovely family home quietly situated just off the village green.”
Plenty of ponies, donkeys and cows in the road outside to satisfy any "townies" looking for the New Forest experience and easy walk to local pub (good beer selection but meals not cheap. The village shop/post Office is superb with excellent bread and meat (any would be barbequer must get the lamb chops, local sausages and chicken breasts in lemon and pepper marinade). The downstairs bedroom and wetroom is not 100% accessible as there is a step down. However, it is only about 4 inches and there is a strong handle. My wife, who is disabled with MS was able to manage quite easily. There is no shelf in the wetroom but having spoken to the owner she will deal with it. Finally, the tenants have access to the vegetable garden and, dependant on the season, we were able to pick masses of raspberries, runner beans, carrots, borlotti beans as well as apples and pears. In summary , an excellent and spacious home with enclosed garden and one, if circumstances permit, would return to.
- Eric, August 2019Penelope “We have stayed in this property before, and were very keen to return.”
The house and garden are perfect for adults and children, and the location is lovely. It is within reach of many of the New Forest's attractions, but you can spend days just exploring the local area on foot. The local Community shop is very well stocked, and the Horse and Groom pub is excellent for both food and drink, with an extensive garden and friendly staff,
- Penelope, July 2019Rita “We rented the house to accommodate the family whilst celebrating my special birthday.”
The house was very homely and we all felt at ease immediately. The owner informed us that it was her much loved childhood family home and she was happy to see other people enjoying it. The children loved the garden which was a perfect setting for hide and seek and a lovely place for the adults to sit and admire it's beauty. The location was superb, away from it all. The animals on the nearby common provided a constant interest for the children. All in all we had a fabulous time in a house that was comfortable, clean and obviously cared for. Thank you.
- Rita, May 2019Helinda “We had the most enjoyable stay at Byways.”

- Azzopardi,Guest's review on TripAdvisor “I booked this accommodation for a stay with friends and their toddlers.”
This accommodation was perfect for families. I was very impressed with our gorgeous welcome basket. They provided tea, coffee and sugar which was fantastic!! The location was excellent and there were very informative leaflets making it easy to explore the gorgeous surroundings. As an added extra I want to say a big thank you to the owners who were able to send my daughter's special Peter Rabbit bowl to us after we left it! We were very grateful for their thoughtfulness and appreciative of how they would go the extra mile to ensure we had a lovely time. We will definitely be coming back and we've recommended it to all of our friends and family.
- Guest's review on TripAdvisor,Guest's review on TripAdvisor “Located at the northern end of the New Forest, this lovely family residence is perfect for family events.”
Spacious and extremely well furnished and fitted out it provided the perfect combination of a large kitchen and lounge with privacy when required. The garden is a delight as are the nearby (very) animals. There is a pub just down the road.

The house really was perfection - clean, very comfortable, with every element they could need for the week supplied. The house & garden are beautiful & my parents immediately felt right at home and enjoyed reading the books in the library! Jane & Tim stopped by several times to ensure my parents were happy & had everything they needed. Jane & Tim could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. My parents are very grateful to them & for the use of their lovely home.

The medieval Great Bridge, with seven graceful arches, is a major feature of the town. The immediate area is a wonderful place for visitors, with its beautiful scenery, nature havens, cycleways and welcoming people. Fordingbridge is conveniently situated for the magnificent cathedral city of Salisbury to the north, and the super seaside resort of Bournemouth to the south. The stunning New Forest National Park is only 1.5 miles from the town, where you can explore thousands of acres of moor, heath and woodland frequented by wild ponies, and dotted with quaint villages and country pubs.
