“A great house for any occasssion”
“We loved everything about the house and gardens.”
It was Mum's 80th birthday and we went as a family. She was blown away and it was perfect for her.
“This property is amazing for large groups and was in an incredible condition.”
The dining room was a perfect size for hosting a NYE dinner party, and we made full use of the two drawing rooms for general relaxation/afternoon tea/after dinner drinks. Even though it was winter, the grounds were great for exploring and we also did a couple of the nearby walks. It was also super close to the pub which we made full use of!
“House and gardens beautiful.”
Waterfall and Koi ponds very unusual for a rental house. The dogs loved all the space, as did my daughters boyfriend for the drone flying space.
“We just wanted to send a review for our recent stay over New Year.”
What a special place to stay and bring in the New Year. Everything was perfect. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and all manner of cooking and dining paraphernalia was provided. Beautiful rooms, stunning grounds and a wonderful sense of history about the place; we felt like kings. Thank you for everything; we very much look forward to staying again soon.
“Ideal and beautiful location for a big family get-together with ages ranging from 11 weeks to 86 years.”
Everyone, including the dog, had a wonderfully comfortable stay. A very spacious property but warm and homely, there was nothing we needed because everything was provided - felt like we staying with friends. Stunning grounds enjoyed and used by us all, especially the oldies who just sat and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Some lovely walks around the property but also lots to do for those who wanted to venture out in the car. Would love to stay again, maybe for our next get-together!
“A fantastic place for our bi-annual family get together, especially to welcome a new baby.”
We've had a wonderful time together in a beautiful house and setting. Outstanding house and gardens. The children enjoyed playing outside in the fantastic weather - a perfect setting for a family get together. We had a treasure hunt in the house, gardens and village - great fun!
“Beautiful historic house to spend a fun family birthday weekend - thoroughly enjoyed by all.”
“Impressive and grand but informal and warm at the same time.”
Big rooms, huge ceilings, lots of space for our group to spread out. A wonderful quirky house with two huge fireplaces and lots of comfy seating. Really well equipped kitchen which our professional chef friends really appreciated. Great walks on doorstep and a pub although we didn't have time to test that out!
“Super break with some wonderful walks.”
“We had the most amazing stay in this fantastic house - we did not want to leave!”
“I wouldn't know how such a fine and old property should be improved.”
The house, surroundings and gardens are picture perfect. The property accommodates 15 people, looks stunningly good and is situated in the location that we wanted to visit.
“King John's House is a place where guests can enjoy the awe-inspiring period features whilst utilising the perks and practicalities of modern day life.”
Everything required was available; bottled water, clean towels, ‘endless' chopped wood for the magnificent open fireplace. The welcome hamper was a warm gesture, typical of the nice, little touches we benefited from. I should say most of us had no service on our phones, which was a rare luxury, but the wifi connected seamlessly. The Japanese gardens are astonishing and offer surreal surroundings so different from the historic house. Beyond that is traditional English landscape perfect for scenic walks. There were 8 of us in total and yet no battling over bedrooms ensued as they are all fantastic in their own way. Great location, great house, stunning grounds - a weekend to remember.
A stay in King John's House is unlikely to ever be forgotten.
Spending any time within the walls of this extraordinary, historic, Grade II* house is an utterly unique experience.
Full of atmosphere and character, the principal rooms exude a tremendous sense of history with many fine examples of period features.
Set in superb grounds on the edge of the charming village of Tollard Royal, the house is perfect for a special celebration be it a 'milestone' birthday, important wedding anniversary or a large family reunion....Stepping inside the impressive, oak front door, you'll be completely in awe of the spectacular medieval entrance hall, which provides a wonderful reception area with its huge fireplace, long stone-mullioned window and very unusual small 'loophole' window.
You can step straight from the 13th century into the 16th century and dine in style in the Tudor panelled Dining Room .
Despite all the reminders of times past, you will not be deprived of modern comforts including a huge, contemporary kitchen, elegant and luxurious beds and up-to-date showers.
With so much to take in, you' probably won't be surprised to hear there is even a sauna in a Japanese pagoda for guests to make the most of!
An absolutely unbeatable choice of location when you've got something to celebrate.
