“This is a lovely accomodation for two people.”

The place is like a very large hotel room with a kitchen area. There and everything we needed although a dishwasher would have been good but there was no room for one really. The only criticism we had was the sofa was really uncomfortable, the owners need to buy a new one. The location was beautiful right in the river Avon and it was very quiet. The gardens were lovely. We walked into Salisbury which was a couple of miles away. The pavement along the main road was a bit overgrown which made it difficult at times cos the traffic is fast along the main road. But after a while it widens and you can walk through the park for the last part. Salisbury is beautiful and we recommend the museum cafe for lunch. It's easy to get to Stonehenge, New Forest (approx 35 mins drive away) and Winchester (45 mins). We walked in the Nadder valley which is beautiful and only 20-30 mins away. Ester gave us some nice walking maps. To eat we would recommend the New Forest Inn, Rick Steins in Winchester, The Greyhound Inn in Wilton, museum cafe in Salisbury. The Green Dragon is walking distance away from Avon Turn, the food is ok. Overall a lovely holiday and very nice owners Chris and Ester.

The property

Avon Turn Barn is set in a magical and utterly peaceful setting by the River Avon, in the grounds of an impressive country house.

The property provides stunning accommodation within an imaginatively designed, timber-clad barn.

The main living area is a large, open plan room where a 'Gothic', floor-to-ceiling window and skylights provide an immediate sense of light and space, displaying the barn's beautifully crafted, oak timber structure in all its glory.

Sit back and admire the restful views over the attractive, cob-walled kitchen garden and across the extensive lawn to the river, where an abundance of wildlife can be seen at all times of the day.

During the warmer months you can enjoy a barbecue on the paved patio area just below the barn or sit out and relax on the various garden benches overlooking the river. Please note this property only week long and Friday to Friday bookings

About the location

SALISBURY

Andover 17 miles; Southampton 23 miles

The medieval city of Salisbury is the jewel in Wiltshire's crown, dominated by the majestic 13th century Gothic cathedral. The cathedral offers 750 years of history including Britain's tallest spire, the world's best preserved original Magna Carta, and Europe's oldest working clock. The surrounding cathedral close, full of architectural gems, is bordered by the River Avon and ancient Chilmark stone walls. The city offers historic streets with charming half-timbered buildings, traditional pubs, characterful shops and a twice-weekly market. Or, stroll along the Town Path and take in the awe-inspiring views across the water meadows towards the cathedral. After dark, there's a thriving arts scene, including one of the country's leading repertory theatres, a lively arts centre, cinema and a wealth of independent restaurants. Should you want to explore further afield then a short drive from Salisbury takes you to Stonehenge, the National Trust's Stourhead House and gardens, majestic Wilton House, as well as the New Forest National Park, and the Hampshire and Dorset coasts. There's so much to see and do in Salisbury and surrounding area that your only concern will be finding the time to do it all!

Must be full weeks Friday-Friday only.
