“The property did smell of damp in the kitchen and bathroom but was not unexpected in a cottage of that age and location.”

    ...

The sofa and easy chair did get a little uncomfortable after a while but we are both in our late 60's now and not so flexible. The beds were very comfortable and with good reading lights. There was plenty of reading material and good local information. The cottage had been decorated and furnished sympathetically in keeping with the character of the property. Useful selection of condiments and dry goods in the kitchen store cupboards, milk in the fridge and tea, coffee, sugar and sweeteners supplied.

The property

Located on the edge of the pretty village of Hindon, Beckford Cottage is every inch the classic English country cottage.

Approached through an attractive front garden, this ancient cottage has an immediately welcoming feel and offers an excellent option to relax in some of the region's best countryside.

With its 17th century origins, Beckford Cottage retains the feel of an ancient dwelling whilst offering modern comforts and facilities.

You'll find the peaceful and private terraced garden at the rear of the property provides a relaxing place to enjoy a glass or two at the end of the day's exploring.

Inside the owners have created a welcoming and very attractive holiday home, mixing classic period features with modern touches.

We especially love the exposed brickwork and original beams.

It's a real historic home and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

About the location

SALISBURY

Andover 17 miles; Southampton 23 miles

The medieval city of Salisbury is the jewel in Wiltshire's crown, dominated by the majestic 13th century Gothic cathedral. The cathedral offers 750 years of history including Britain's tallest spire, the world's best preserved original Magna Carta, and Europe's oldest working clock. The surrounding cathedral close, full of architectural gems, is bordered by the River Avon and ancient Chilmark stone walls. The city offers historic streets with charming half-timbered buildings, traditional pubs, characterful shops and a twice-weekly market. Or, stroll along the Town Path and take in the awe-inspiring views across the water meadows towards the cathedral. After dark, there's a thriving arts scene, including one of the country's leading repertory theatres, a lively arts centre, cinema and a wealth of independent restaurants. Should you want to explore further afield then a short drive from Salisbury takes you to Stonehenge, the National Trust's Stourhead House and gardens, majestic Wilton House, as well as the New Forest National Park, and the Hampshire and Dorset coasts. There's so much to see and do in Salisbury and surrounding area that your only concern will be finding the time to do it all!
