“We arrived at Pop's Barn to find it damp and musty.”

Given that my wife has an auto-immune disease which makes her susceptible to infections in such conditions and that I have just completed a course of chemotherapy, we decided that it was too risky to stay and came straight home without unpacking (we are both in our 70s). It is not surprising that the property is damp: it is built into the ground and has no opportunity of having any through-flow of air. After a period of sustained rainfall it was inevitable that the dampness could be felt as well ...

After a period of sustained rainfall it was inevitable that the dampness could be felt as well as tasted. We also agreed with the reviewer who commented that it needed a deep clean. On arriving back home we telephoned the owner to explain what had happened, but there was no acknowledgment that there was a problem - only a statement that it had once been checked for damp and that there were currently no visible signs of damp. That may be so but it is undeniable that there is a persistent underlying problem which would be a health risk for vulnerable people. We were not offered any compensation. We have never written a negative review before but prospective visitors need to be warned.
