Eileen “This is a good size property for a family holiday with a dog in a beautiful remote location but was more of a challenge to manage than we had anticipated.”
We had a person with mobility issues with us so the muddy verge (parking) and then a set of steep steps were a surprise on arrival as was the log burner to heat the house. The property has a significant damp problem (the walls were wet in the hall and dining room) so the log burner did help but was a full time job to keep burning and with no instructions we were left to figure it out. I rang the owner and left a message but she never returned my call. You need to leave instructions as to how ...

The property has a significant damp problem (the walls were wet in the hall and dining room) so the log burner did help but was a full time job to keep burning and with no instructions we were left to figure it out. I rang the owner and left a message but she never returned my call. You need to leave instructions as to how the house works and a guide to running the log burner. The master bedroom was a good size but on taking a shower the towels were full of dust as was the cupboard at the end of the bed. There is also no supplemental heating in the master so when the logs stopped so did the heat. We all felt this would be a more appropriate place to both access and stay in the summer when the damp, mud and log burner can be less of a feature.
- Eileen, October 2020Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Hill Cottage. I'm sorry to hear the house wasn't necessary best suited for your needs, but if you do have any special requirements, you must ask these questions before booking, so we can make sure we have the best property for you. We will look to put more notes about the stairs to the front door, although you can see the hand rail from the pictures. We will also pass on your comments to the owner to review. Property Owner

Peter “Be careful in taking a large car to the cottage, could be awkward getting back to the road, because of the rutting in the track and nowhere to turn around.”
- Peter, September 2020Emma “Holiday home was amazing, had everything we needed, and more.”
The area was so relaxing and quiet, the cottage really felt like home, will definitely b3 back.
- Emma, September 2020We look forward to welcoming you back! Property Owner
Katie “The house suffered from major damp problems with water streaming down the walls when it rained.”
For the amount paid I would have expected a house in far better condition. As a result the house felt freezing and damp the whole time. I would like to speak to someone to discuss this. Many thanks.
- Katie, August 2020Thank you for your feedback regarding Hill Cottage. I'm sorry to hear you had issues at the cottage, we would always recommend you call the owner straight away with any problems. We will be in touch to discuss this with you asap. Property Owner
Harriet “We had a lovely, peaceful week at Hill cottage with our three children and two dogs.”
The cottage is situated in beautiful countryside with far reaching views. It has a big, enclosed garden which our children and dogs loved and we had good weather some days so we’re able to sit out in it. We also had some chilly evenings and made use of the lovely open fire in the living room. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. It is about 30-40 minutes from nice beaches and we particularly liked going to Eype Beach which allows dogs all year and is much quieter than the ones at Lyme Regis.
- Harriet, July 2020We are pleased to hear you had a lovely, peaceful stay and were able to enjoy the garden and the open fire in the same week. HIdeaways Property Owner

Paul “Fantastic cottage in a wonderful and quite location.”
Hill cottage was clean and being winter was very warm and cosy. Plenty of wood supplied to keep both fires going and we had a wonderful and relaxing time just chilling in this lovely environment. Spent a morning on the beach having a long walk with the dog (who was most welcome at Hill cottage) as its only a 20 minutes drive away. If you are after a traditional cottage, that is clean, comfy, relaxing and is a real 'Get away' from the daily routine. Hill cottage will fit the bill.
- Paul, December 2019Thank you for taking time to leave your comments on Hill Cottage. We are pleased to hear you had a wonderful and relaxing stay. Property Owner
Belinda “We enjoyed our stay but would of helped if there was an information book about the cottage.”
Roads around the area exttemely narrow
- Belinda, September 2019Margaret “Lovely comfortable cottage & beautiful weather.”
Would have spent more relaxing time in the garden if the grass had been cut, very wet due to dewy mornings.
- Margaret, September 2019Carol “Well at the higher end of the market I assumed parking for one car would have been the case.”
Far from it. To have to park on a fairly steep slope on wet grass is not easy. On day one the car wheels struggled to get a grip when I went to move it onto the allocated "space". In addition to this the hot water for both bath and shower was erratic. The fact that we only had initial verbal instructions may have been the problem. Can't say I felt clear headed after the long drive. Otherwise we enjoyed our time especially sitting outside on the upper and lower terraces.
- Carol, September 2019Michelle “Lovley cottage stunning views , do not follow sat nav as it takes you up a a lane to no where .”
.. over a cattle grid so we were a little lost . Beaches about a 25 min drive so a bit further away thak we anticipated x
- Michelle, August 2019Lorraine “The cottage was lovely and in a peaceful location.”
The owner was very welcoming and showed us around on arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
- Lorraine, August 2019Michael “A very comfortable cottage sadly spoiled by the showers, cold most of the time (heat on full!”
!). For the price of this cottage a dish washer would be expected, otherwise had a very pleasant week there.
- Michael, August 2019Penny “Hill Cottage is charming, very peaceful, comfortable and well equipped.”
It would be a lovely place to stay in any season, and I enjoyed my stay as much as in any cottage I’ve rented. The front garden is very nicely accessible, and has lovely views, though these are sadly and swiftly being compromised by a large holly tree which would benefit from being heavily topped next winter (when it is dormant) to open the view once more. The garden also could do with someone spending a couple of hours removing the occasional bramble stem and a few nettles, which are pushing through and are beginning to give the shrubs and glorious clumps of day lilies a slightly unkempt appearance. There was just one quite important practical point which I would suggest should be added into the ‘write-up’ about Hill Cottage...it didn’t affect me because I am fit and agile, but to access the cottage from where visitors must park their car involves a climb up approximately twenty steps, which could be completely impossible for some elderly or infirm people. I don’t think I saw any mention of it in the details of this aptly named cottage.
- Penny, June 2019Richard “Hill Cottage is an ideal place if you are seeking peace and quiet off the beaten track.”
Despite being only a few miles from Lyme Regis, the setting couldn't be more rural and the total absence of traffic noise makes a welcome change - it feels more like central France that the UK. The cottage itself is decently equipped and was spacious enough for our family of 4 adults, 2 children and a dog not to feel cramped. Happy to recommend.
- Richard, May 2019Gary “The cottage was perfect for a getaway.”
The situation is fantastic. It was perfect for us.
- Gary, March 2019The Stokes family “Thank you for the goodies and the well stocked/equipped kitchen.”
Lovely and peaceful.
- The Stokes family,Guest's review on TripAdvisor “Just wanted to say a massive thank you to the owner of Hill Cottage and the team at Hideaways, for a wonderful mini break between Christmas and New Year.”
The cottage was superbly equipped with everything a family needs and a gorgeous base for visiting our Somerset family. The seasonal extras (crackers, festive tableware, chilled fizz, cake) plus two roaring fires on arrival were extremely thoughtful extras. It was also super being able to bring our little dog; he enjoyed himself too! The booking process through Hideaways was extremely easy and the price paid very reasonable. It was also refreshing being able to book a cottage for a few nights rather than a whole week over the Christmas/NY period. Thanks again.
- Guest's review on TripAdvisor,Whittemore “Nice property in pretty location”
- Whittemore, lewis “Lovely old cottage but it has been updated to a high standard.”
The log burner in the dining room is lovely and the location was excellent for us.
- lewis,Mrs Kathy Hampden “Hi there, just wanted to say a massive thank you for a wonderful mini break between Christmas and New Year.”
The cottage was superbly equipped and a gorgeous base for visiting our Somerset family. The seasonal extras (crackers, table ware, fizz, cake) plus two lit fires on arrival were extremely thoughtful extras.
- Mrs Kathy Hampden,Guest's review on TripAdvisor “Me, my husband, two daughters and dog stayed here for a week in August 2014.”
The cottage is exactly as the pictures, and is lovely in 'the flesh'. It is very homely, has a very well stocked kitchen and is generally very comfortable. The surrounding area is so quiet and beautiful. The owner was very helpful on arrival and when the immersion heater 'tripped out' it was sorted out within half an hour. \ It is a great base if you want to travel around Dorset/Somerset/Devon. If we travelled back to this part of the country we would definitely stay here again and recommend the cottage.
- Guest's review on TripAdvisor,Stepahanie Dowling “I just wanted to say how pleased we were with Hill Cottage.”
A little tricky to find without a sat nav but worth it. It was well stocked with everything we needed to live comfortably and the position is gorgeous. We will certainly try and use your services in future.
- Stepahanie Dowling,Bliss Family “What a lovely cosy little cottage.”
We have had a wonderful week in beautiful Dorset and the surrounding areas. Thoroughly enjoyed hiking in the gorge at Cheddar! Also had great fun looking at fossils at Charmouth.
- Bliss Family,Mr & Mrs Adams “A superb six days at Hill Cottage only matched by the wonderful weather and local food from farm shops in Chard and near Yeovil!”
Visited Sherborne, Chard, Lyme Regis and Dorchester. Great walks, including one to Hawkchurch and around the reservoir at Chard. Spent a great evening badger watching at Buckland Newton. After seeing and photographing four badgers until 9.30pm. we were treated to a fantastic star filled sky with three shooting stars!
- Mr & Mrs Adams,The Carters “The cottage and location were the perfect retreat.”
We all relaxed and our one year old granddaughter enjoyed wandering around the garden and looking at the ducks and cows. The cottage was really well equipped. Thank you for providing us with a wonderful week.
- The Carters,Rumsey Family “We all enjoyed our stay at Hill Cottage so much.”
It's a beautiful cottage and we really enjoyed the scones, jam, cream and wine, thank you. Nothing has been too much trouble and we have received excellent service.
