Extremely well-equipped and spotlessly clean too. The garden is a delight to explore and lots of wildlife to observe. We absolutely loved Goosemoor Cottage, we had high expectations of it from the pictures and the previous reviews, and our expectations were certainly exceeded!

“Beautiful cottage in large private grounds.”

Decor inside was lovely. Cooking on an Aga was a great experience. If you want a totally secluded and private break then this is the place. We didn’t see another soul whilst we were there. Apart from the squirrels, rabbits, foxes and wild birds it was all ours.

“We had a four night break in May, my husband and me, our daughter and her partner.”

We were totally amazed at the beautiful house and garden. The photos really don't do it justice, it is absolutely spectacular. We would all certainly go back and now our other daughter wants to bring her family down too. Totally perfect in every way.

“Even the lovely photos do not do this property justice.”

My family and I rented this property for a week in the summer and loved every moment there. The decor and the finishes of the property were top class and it was clearly restored with care. The property was beautifully clean and the grounds perfectly maintained. We managed to use this for a base to see what Exmoor had to offer and always looked forward to getting back to the cottage at the end of the day. Definitely worth a stay if you want to get away from things and have that cottage feel in absolute comfort.

“As we got out of our car when we arrived at Lower Goosemoor cottage we were both totally in awe of the cottage and it's garden's beauty.”

The garden is breathtaking and is a haven of tranquillity. The only sounds are bird song, the breeze through the trees and the trickle of water from the stream. The cottage has been decorated and furnished to the highest standards. We arrived to cake, wine, bacon, eggs, butter, milk and other supplies such as tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid, etc. There was even a draw in the bathroom full of items in case we had forgotten to pack anything! We had an amazing week and will definitely be staying again.

“This review echoes the sentiments of earlier ones.”

The photos (which are impressive) don't do this place justice! It is a beautiful setting, with a wonderful garden/grounds to explore, lots of places to sit and have tea/lunch/play games/read etc. If you are quiet enough, there is plenty of wildlife to observe too. A pair of lesser spotted woodpeckers were regular visitors to the bird seed holder on the tree close to the house. Inside the house are lots of lovely messages clearly explaining the set up, and the cleanliness was sublime. A nice touch was the bread, eggs, and other food already in the fridge! The WiFi was a bit temperamental, but that's rural broadband for you! Not that it was a detriment since it was nice to get away! The track running from the road to the cottage is a bit narrow, but manageable for most vehicles. A picturesque location for a getaway. Definitely worth booking! Thank you :)

. We love to cook so with a well equipped kitchen, we just cook and enjoy the open fire in the evenings having had a day of walking and exploring beautiful Exmoor. It is a gem and we love it!

The property

Lower Goosemoor is an idyllic hideaway situated in a private valley at the end of a track in Exmoor National Park.

It lies within 4 miles of the hilltop village of Wheddon Cross and close to Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor.

The property, a former pair of miner's cottages, has surprisingly large and light rooms and has been modernised with flair and sensitivity.

Warm and welcoming, it has been thoughtfully equipped and is perfectly complemented by its enchanting grounds, through which guests can roam.

This cottage and its location really do leave guests awestruck and proves a perfect place in which to relax and recharge the batteries.

A real favourite for families and small groups looking to get away from it all.

Wheddon Cross is a small village in the heart of Exmoor National Park, a thriving rural community with village shop, friendly pub and an all-weather court which is available for many sports including tennis, netball and basketball. Nearby is the picturesque village of Exford, situated in the heart of the Exmoor National Park. In a lovely setting by the River Exe, Exford boasts a village green, tea rooms, a shop, Post Office and two traditional inns serving excellent food and drinks. Exford is at the centre of a walkers' paradise with many miles of waymarked paths down the Exe and River Barle valleys and up to the nearby hills, including Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor, with outstanding views over 17 counties. Exford is renowned for fishing and riding, with the village hosting a horse show every August. The largest herd of wild red deer in England and Exmoor’s unique wild ponies roam the moors just above and around Exford, as they have done since the time of the Domesday Book. A lovely area to explore on your holiday.
