“Arriving at the property at 1630 after a 7hr journey we found we were locked out with the key not being in the door as promised.”
The phone signal is poor and it took us over 15 minutes to get in touch with the owners to finally get a code to the key safe. While they apologised they did say it was because we weren't there at 1600 and they didn't want to leave it unlocked. The property was really clean and the views AMAZING. Unfortunately the bed was not only soft but lumpy, the towels - there must be a knack to getting them so hard and solid, there was no welcome pack which we have become accustomed to at all other ...
The phone signal is poor and it took us over 15 minutes to get in touch with the owners to finally get a code to the key safe. While they apologised they did say it was because we weren't there at 1600 and they didn't want to leave it unlocked. The property was really clean and the views AMAZING. Unfortunately the bed was not only soft but lumpy, the towels - there must be a knack to getting them so hard and solid, there was no welcome pack which we have become accustomed to at all other properties we have stayed at - not even a pint of milk. Other than a scrap of paper about which bin rubbish could go in (the bins aren't labelled) there was no details left out. We had to ask which part of the grounds we could walk in to be told not round the property just down the permissive bridleway. Asking where to dispose of our dog poo bags the lady owner told us she didn't like them being put in the bins - so we had to take them away with us - not ideal when the nearest bin is miles away. The flat is over what could only be described as a utility room and the owners let their dog out that way meaning you hear regular banging of doors and on our last morning we were woken up at 0530 by things being dropped and doors slamming. The light by where you entered the building didn't work meaning it was very dark trying to get in of an evening. The table and chairs outside wouldn't be good for someone with disabilities or unstable on their feet. Such a shame as this property could be amazing. Seeing the bats of an evening and hearing the tawny owls was lovely.
The owner has been in touch and apologises for the oversight of the key not being left for your arrival. In relation to the mattressess this is of course a personal preference so any mattress won't suit everyone. The owner has said that he doesn't mind guests walking around the property and it's extensive grounds, but politely asks that you do not go near the kitchen window. The bridleway is a beautiful walk that takes you all the way to Cove. As a self catering property it is down to the individual owner should they decide to leave a welcome pack. Shute Farm Apartment provides first class accommodation near to the pretty village of Bampton, Devon.
Although situated within the owners' magnificent home, the apartment provides completely private accommodation, accessed via a separate entrance to ensure your uninterrupted enjoyment of the glorious Exmoor National Park. As you approach the property you immediately start to feel relaxed in these glorious surroundings and you begin to get a sense of the stunning views that you will be able to enjoy during your stay. Accessed via a separate entrance, the entire apartment is located on the first floor and is flooded by natural light.
From all rooms you are able to enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. The warm and inviting sitting room offers a place to relax and unwind, either with a good book or to catch up with a decent film. The kitchen though simple in design provides you with all that you could need to prepare delicious meals and a place to enjoy a relaxed breakfast. The master bedroom provides you with a king size bed and ample storage for your holiday wardrobe.
A third guest can be accommodated in the adjoining single room (please note that this room does not have a door). Adjacent to the master bedroom is the shower room, comprising of walk in shower, w.c.
hand basin and heated towel rail. Outside and if the weather permits, you have a garden table and chairs from which you can enjoy the uninterrupted views of Exmoor National Park. If you can tear yourself away from the apartment and fancy an evening without cooking, the The Swan in Bampton (just 2 miles away) is regarded as being one of the best pubs in the region. If you fancy a day on the beach, then the north Devon / Somerset coast lies less than 20 miles to the north. This apartment really is about enjoying the great outdoors - with walking, cycling, climbing or horse riding (or for the less energetic just generally 'mooching' about!) in Britain's least visited National Park.

Bampton is a wonderfully peaceful Devon village situated in a wooded valley on the banks of the River Batherm, a tributary of the River Exe, close to the Exmoor National Park. Bampton offers lovely Georgian cottages and houses, a good range of shops and is famous for its floral displays, pony fair and folk festival. The towns of Dulverton and Tiverton are close by and offer plenty of amenities, plus there are many country pursuits on offer in this rural area, including fishing on the two reservoirs at Wimbleball and Clatworthy, Exmoor safaris through dramatic windswept moors, walking the Exe Valley Way, horseriding across the moor and cycling along the Lowman Way. Further afield is the beautiful North Devon coastline with stunning walks, small coves, sandy beaches and views across to Wales. Bampton provides an ideal base for exploring North Devon and the Exmoor National Park.
