“Firstly this is a working Dairy farm and fairy remote so there are farmyard smells and noises, no internet and poor phone signal but we could get one.”

No problem for us but should be mentioned That said the farm noises were not a problem for us and hardly noticeable. The cottage is very comfortable, especially the large bed and everything in it is finished to a high standard and plenty of room. The photos don't do justice to the quality of the interior. We couldn't get over how Dog friendly the area is, it is very central for the Malverns, Bromley Downs, Herefordshire and some lovely and interesting market towns. Ludlow was a favourite. All in all a lovely cottage, in a great location, well equipped and excellent quality and value. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The property

Set in the grounds of the owner's working farm, Elephant Cottage is an outstanding cottage.

Rife with a quirky history, Elephant Cottage's was once owned by a Birmingham circus family who relocated from the city to retire with their animals and it was here that a baby elephant was housed in this old barn building until it moved away.

Hence the name!

The current owners, once they bought the farm, set about improving everything.

Today we have this beautiful old barn, which has been beautifully modernised, comfortable, spotlessly clean and incredibly charming.

As you will see all the old beams and trusses remain, there is even a section of the original wattle and daub inside.

These period features have been enhanced, creating a very special cottage retreat.

Elephant Cottage is light and airy inside due to the high beam ceilings and multiple windows that look out over the beautiful view of the surrounding farm lands.

Fishing is also possible around 200 meters away in a small lake stocked with brown trout and carp.

Outside is a large, private garden area - all of which overlooks classic English countryside with walks in all directions to help you relax and unwind.

This is a wonderful spot, we loved it and the overall effect is of an enchanting cottage brimming over with character in a great part of the country.

About the location

LEOMINSTER

Hereford 12 miles; Ludlow 12 miles.

Leominster is located in the heart of the beautiful border countryside, where England and Wales nudge each other along Offa’s Dyke. Dating back to the 7th Century, the town of Leominster possesses some fine examples of architecture such as the Priory Church, along with a wide variety of shops, cafes and pubs, and is the ideal place in which to spend a lazy afternoon strolling around in pleasant surroundings. Nearby is the smaller market town of Tenbury Wells situated on the banks of the River Teme. Dating back to the Iron Age and said to have been called 'my little town in the orchard' by Queen Victoria, Tenbury Wells boasts a unique 18th century bridge built by Thomas Telford, the magnificent Pump Rooms, which housed baths where local mineral water was available, and many other listed buildings dating back to the 17th century. Close by are many National Trust properties including Croft Castle and Berrington Hall, plus the Judge's Lodgings in Presteigne, Stokesay Castle, the renowned Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm are well worth a visit. Sample Herefordshire's famous cider or discover Hereford with it's fascinating Mappa Mundi world map and the captivating chained library, home to a collection of rare and ancient books while nearby Bromyard has an air of timelessness with many half-timbered buildings, helping visitors relax amongst a good range of pubs, restaurants and shops. The pretty medieval market town of Ludlow makes a great day out, with more than 500 listed buildings and a magnificent castle, and also within easy reach are Ironbridge and Hay-on-Wye. The magnificent Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons National Park and stunning Malvern Hills also make a great day out.
