“1. Whilst there was a dishwasher it’s purpose was largely redundant given the limited amount of crockery and cutlery.”

For example, there were only two tea mugs. We would have preferred to spend less time washing up but it was not possible to fill the dishwasher. 2. The outside lighting was very poor. We arrived in the dark and could barely see the outside steps. It is a potential accident waiting to happen. 3. It was difficult to locate the property in the dark as there was no sign outside to identify it. 4. It would have been useful if plug adapters had been provided. 5. It was difficult to locate the property in the dark as there was no sign outside to identify it. 4. It would have been useful if plug adapters had been provided. 5. The information pack in the apartment is out of date. For example, it recommends a restaurant which went out of business two years ago; there was no torch in the drawer. 6. Given that we paid five star prices we expected five star provisions. 7. The bed was very comfortable. 8. The apartment was located in a very quiet area which we enjoyed. 9. Alexa and the smart TVs were good. 10. The fridge freezer was good. 11. Good quality bed linen and towels were provided. Overall, we would recommend staying at the apartment. If the owner makes the suggested improvements it will be even better!

    1. When we first encountered the pandemic we were instructed to remove as much of the potential material that could harbour the virus and this resulted in us reducing cutlery and crockery to the bare minimum. We also removed all books and a lot of the soft furnishings in accordance with the guidelines. Since then there has been no further instruction or suggestion to go back to the original stock levels of soft furnishings crockery cutlery et cetera however we have decided to replace the crockery and I’ve just purchased a new set of Dartington fine bone china of which there are four items of dinner plates side plates cereal bowls and pasta bowls. The cutlery has also been increased in number to 4 of each item and also the tea mugs. 2. The outside lighting unfortunately was not working over the steps we have upgraded the light fittings to more powerful ones in this area and also over the door in order that it makes it easier to see the numbers on the key safe. 3. We do not have a sign outside the property that is correct however usually the welcome email contains enough information to guide you into the drive and as far as the door to The Hideaway. 4. We do not understand what is meant by plug adapters. There are plenty of double 13 amp sockets in this property. 5. I have today updated the information in the welcome pack, yes absolutely right Jamie Oliver’s restaurant 15 has gone out of business. Thank you for pointing this out as there are some other details that are now out of date. I’ve also replaced the torch and placed it in the cutlery drawer underneath the draining board, this has gone missing for some reason and it is now on the housekeeper’s inventory check list. 6. We are confused by your comment of we expect five star provisions. We do provide a hamper for our guests which comprises of many items of Cornish produce including jam, chutney, biscuits, pilchards, scones, clotted cream, chocolate and tea. We also provide coffee pods for the coffee machine and simple things like sugar, salt and pepper. In the case of this guest and considering the time of year we also provided a bottle of Veuve Clicquot a pair of nice crystal champagne flutes as a gift and an Hotel Chocolat gift pack to help with the New Year celebration. 7/8/9/10 and 11. Thank you for your comments, we pride ourselves on providing as much comfort as possible for our guests. Property Owner

The property

A fabulous retreat for two, The Hideaway has serious wow factor.

Part of a beautifully converted Grade II listed barn, the lofty interior is simply incredible.

Put your feet up in front of the wood burning stove in the magnificent open plan living space and sleep in an enormous superking size bed on the galleried mezzanine above.

For sheer indulgence you can sip champagne in the freestanding bath which sits majestically in the centre of the bedroom.

A little terrace beside the ornamental pond is perfect for sunny breakfasts and there is also an orchard leading to a paddock which are shared with the owners who live in the adjacent barn. The Hideaway sits within the grounds of the former landed Figg-Hoblyn estate and a walk through the nearby woodland will reveal the ruins of the manor house, left to rack and ruin after a family dispute; in fact the heir to the estate has never been found after disappearing to America during the Second World War.

Off the beaten track, this a lovely quiet spot yet it is only three miles to the north coast at Watergate Bay giving you the best of both worlds; absolute peace and quiet within easy reach of coastal life.

Other nearby beaches include Fistral, Porth, Holywell Bay and Mawgan Porth.

For watersports the Extreme Academy at Watergate Bay cannot be beaten with everything from kite surfing to waveskiing to hand planing (no we didn't know what it was either).

If you would rather be relaxing then a spot of spa pampering can be arranged at The Watergate Bay, Bedruthan Steps or Scarlet Hotel, all of which are within a few miles.

Foodies should head to Rick Stein at Padstow or Nathan Outlaw at Port Isaac, both of which you will need to book in advance, failing that there is a good foodie pub less than a mile away.

To top it all off the owners provide a delicious cream tea on arrival plus logs for the wood burner. For larger groups we also let the adjoining property The Lost Barn (ref 1662) which sleeps 4.
